Serbia-NATO relations ten years on

Serbia has the worst relations with NATO out of all the countries in South-East Europe, says Defense Minister Dragan Šutanovac.

nato is relevant, but only for those who join it.

it´s an economic question first.

nevertheless, Serbia has no need to join this questionable organisation...

and last but not least, these days it has become a basket full of bootlickers, who want to "join" but actually are only being used.

@Gregor:

where do you see a comment by Ataman here???

Join Russia/China/India alliance as soon as possible.

Peggy,

For the FIRST time in our B92 history I agree with 100 per cent)))

"Šutanovac said that the victims must not be forgotten, but that it was necessary to work together with NATO as this was in Serbia and NATO’s mutual interest."

What is this man on? I don't know what he's thinking (or drinking or smoking) but he should know that Serbia was illegally bombed 10 years ago by NATO. NATO used depleted uranium shells in its evil onslaught which killed innocent Serbian civilians and continue to do so through people contracting various forms of cancer.

NATO continues to weaken Serbia and NATO orchestrated and carried out the entire 'Kosovo Tragedy'.

I'm sorry to say this but Serbia really has some strange politicians. If they are receiving 'brown envelopes' from 'the West', they should watch out because the cheques inside those envelopes will surely bounce.

I feel very sorry for the vast majority of Serbs who are good people.

Sutanovac, please do us all a favour: first fire that ignorant who is writing your speeches {we are tired of blushing for somebody else)and then fire yourself for not recognizing the rubbish he/she is spilling.
Thank you in advance.

Why is Serbia insisting on being militarily neutral?
Join Russia/China/India alliance as soon as possible.

Start talks on complete cooperation and get on with the job. Everyone has to belong somewhere as alone you will perish.

I can't believe that serbs are even considering joining NATO, has everyone lost their minds?
Doesn't anyone remember the bombing? I think you all need a refresher..
NATO are useless, you wouldn't see them attacking China, India or Russia it's only the countries that are economically & defensively weak.
They have bombed you into submission, i thought my people were much stronger than this...
Serbs in Serbia stop being so selfish!

NATO did the right thing like it or not...and we didn't even lose a soldier. It is the big dog in Europe that's the reason you are in "partnership for peace" program.

Serbia should be proud to have the worst relations with the Evil ! Besides Serbia has got Mr. Rogizin as an Ambassador to Brussels. Serbia have to keep up some relations with NATO and nothing else. With the revived Russian support Serbia can spit at what they think or do.

Twise in the history ( in 1914 and 1999 )Serbs changed the world. Changed for the worst. But each time Serbs were the defending part. Each time they retreated but never gave up. Sooner or later we'll have a holiday on our street too.

God Bless Serbia !

NATO is not relevant. It is an impotent joke. When it came to Kosovo, NATO and the leaders (mostly) of those countries talked about stopping the violence and 'atrocities', yet their actions did not match their words.

If their claim that there would be genocide if NATO did not intervene were true, then why did NATO refuse to commit ground troops? This would have been the most effective way to stop a potential 'genocide'. Instead, they preferred to bomb from 20k feet.

This obvious contradiction is rarely seen in the main stream media.

Actions did not match words.

In Iraq, Bush used a 'coalition of the willing' because it was impossible to get NATO on board (due mainly to the painful 'war by committee' NATO practised in Kosovo) and weak evidence.

In Afghanistan, a terrorist breeding ground, NATO 'partners' still refuse to commit the troops needed despite the threat.

NATO is clearly a mess and has been for a very long time. Why commit to an organization that still doesn't know what it is for, that is unable to act in singularity, refuses to take real security risks seriously (Pakistan for example) and is unable to commit what is needed when there is a crisis?

Or are we to accept token forces from allied countries as happens in Iraq and Afghanistan (at maximum a couple of hundred troops from the Balts, Georgia etc.) as proof of NATO's political and military unity?

The war last year in Georgia showed everyone what a might wind NATO is.

You pay for what you get.

No one has the guts to bring a spade and dig NATO's grave. Instead it is slow death by a thousand cuts (lack of material commitment) by supposed 'partners'. Even France rejoining NATO will not halt this regardless of the spin it is being given.
