I've never thought the theocrats in Iran will play ball with Obama and come to negotiating table.
I think they've conditioned themselves to live under threats for the last eight years and they also sense neither Obama or Israel have the balls to attack them.
Their confidence is derived from several factors.
Firstly, they know the US is in deep trouble financially and they try to find ways to dissengage militarilly from several conflicts.
Secondly,an attack on Iran will cause the millions of shihites in Iraq to rise and probably bring down the Maliki goverment. There will also be more risings in Lebanon and Saudi Arabia and probably shut down oil production alltogether.Such a move will result in huge oil shortages and add more problems t the current global depression. This will also lead to massive social unrest and political instability to western countries.
Thirdly, if Israel attempted a nuclear strike on Iran the oil production in that country will shut down for hundreds of years because of residual radioactivity.Currently Iran is the world's no 2 oil producer.
I think the present stalemate will continue until there is change from within Iran.

That means, lowe, that Iran will continue to execute girls for being raped and let homosexuals hang down from tower cranes, while continuing to build a nuke with Russian help.

Obama's attempt is honorable, but I believe that he is wasting his breath. What do you expect to accomplish with talk with people who openly admit that they want to commit genocide?

That means Iran will continue to support anti-US forces in Iraq for the time being. By support, I mean much more than sending shoes for the Iraqis to throw of course.
