UN anti-racism day marked

Today marks the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, with special attention in Serbia being paid to the plight of the Roma.

It should be a priority to eradicate racism everywhere. Hate leads to more hate and is always based on ignorance or fear of another race or nationality.

I am happy to see Belgrade embracing the UN day against racism and paying particular attention to the attitudes against the Roma in Serbia.

In all nations hate speech, racist chants in sports, discrimination, all should be banned without exception. This problem is not about how wealthy a country may be; there are plenty of wealthy so-called developed nations where there are constant racist incidents.

It's about education and intolerance by the government towards bigoted morons who attack or discriminate against someone just because of the colour of their skin or the ethnicity that they may be.

Human behaviour at its worst and always initiated by a group and not individuals.
