“We think that it is best, in facing up to what has happened over the last 20 years in the former Yugoslavia, to create a successful Serbia over the next 20 years,”

A successful Serbia will not be created by the US. Just let the Serbians look after their own country and honestly the best thing you can do is to get out.

The bombings will not be forgotten, and not only in Serbia... Keep in mind and don't count on the people of what your fellows call "the Balkans" (we know you don't, you only use corrupt governments).

Saying sorry will do nothing you need to face justice and pay damages. We know it won't happen for now but don't worry... here in "the Balkans" we're patient... and we have long memories...

Enjoy your moment of power under the Sun.

Mr Munter, thats 10 years too late. So now we have a tacit admission by the US that the attack on Yugoslavia was illegal. Ah shucks, we knew that all along.

While you are at it Mr Munter, why dont you government apologise to the people of El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Cuba, Honduras, East Timor, Vietnam, Laos, Chile, Argentina, Cyprus, Iran, Palestine, Afghanistan, Iraq the whole world for the suffering that successive US governments has inflicted on hundreds of millions of people since 1900. Then we can start to believe that you are sincere.

Ah, good to see our old friend William Walker up to his old tricks again. His involvement with the Contras in Nicaragua is well documented. Maybe he's planning something similar. The Snake could use some training in the 'School of the Americas'. They got a great track record there. Just ask Samosa, Pinochet and Galtieri.

I´m afraid that´s not enough, Munter.

you will have to withdraw from southern Serbia, and then there is an significant amount of money to pay for all the damages Serbia has suffered because of your support for a terrorist organisation lead by drug-smugglers and organ-traffickers.

and THEN we will decide how we will see you in the future.

but THIS is literally a bad joke, Munter.

"We think that it is best, in facing up to what has happened over the last 20 years in the former Yugoslavia”...... the ambassador told journalists in Pančevo. Yes, I agree Mr Munter it would be good if the USA faced up to its role in the break up of YU and destroying the lives of so many people. Warren Zimmermann, former US amb to YU in early 1990s stated that when the USA was finished with Serbia there would be nothing left except greater Belgrade. I am wondering if the USA has finished breaking up the former YU or are there a few more wars to be fomented? I hear William Walker is back consulting and MPRI (US merceneries) is all over Vucitrn/Mitrovica.

He's speaking in Pancevo which had its petrochemical plants bombed, among other things. There was a huge black cloud from one of these bombings. It then floated to Romania then down south from Bulgaria to Greece where it finally broke up.

I notice he speaks of "laws" and "legislation" on environmental issues - the U.S. likes to tinker and meddle with Serbian laws, but NOTHING on any money, test equipment, clean up equipment or help cleaning up the sites or giving money to those harmed by the pollution.

What has Serbia gained by renewing its embassies/ties to the U.S. but more of their self-serving comments and no real aid for the crimes the U.S. did.

You, Munter, as a representative of your country are sorry for... ???
In case you don't know, there is a park in Belgrade called Tasmajdan. And two simple monuments in it. Ask any person to translate the inscriptions on them to you. You may choose then to apologise or not to apologize, won't make any difference.
And something more: you, as a representative of a country, have to work with NGOs and student groups in environment clean-up of another country? Why on that "diplomatic" level? Why you? Aren't you supposed to be dealing with such issues on state-to-state level?

Being "sorry for victims of NATO air strikes" is a step forward compared with silence. It is a bit to little and a bit to late, but c'mon, let's look at the glass as "half-full" than "half-empty".

It is a little step to the correct direction - whatever reasons could be for that little step.

As for depleted Uranium and unexploded cluster bombs and killed people - go on PEACEFUL protest EVERY SINGLE DAY in the front of American consulates worldwide, where ever you live. American-Serbs should target their representatives with e-mails, letters, organize meetings.

You are civilized, free people - do what civilized, free people can. Who has some Pennies to afford - help organizations, little-by-little.

On my side I try to promote your country where I can, increasing it's visibility in the area of some system-level software many people use worldwide or supporting it on travel-related forums. (At this moment since worldwide travel is going to take hits, I focus on the work I am doing for living).

Just give some ideas, sure, everyone can do more, me too. Talking is cheap...

After a visit to the Petrohemija company and the Ponjavica nature park near Pančevo on Thursday, the ambassador said that he was aware of the threats to the environment in this region because of the chemical factory.

He said that adoption of new laws on ecology would enable the government to help improve the quality of life in the town.

HEY MUNTER,

ONLY when you and your cronies clean up your depleted uranium, UXO and other left after your illegal bombing can you offer advice on the environment, whilst your at it explain to your fellow countrymen what the environment is!

We don't need your crocodile tears Munter. If you actually meant what you said, they why have you not cleaned up your cluster bombs after 10 years? Why haven't you said a word about the subhuman conditions the Serbs in Kosovo have to live in? Do you think it's ok that they have to live in ghettos behind barbed wire in the 21'st century, that they need military escorts to buy food at the market, that they can not speak Serbian in public without getting attacked? Do you think it's fair that you give the right of self determination to every ethnic group in former Yugoslavia except Serbs? I would like to remind you that it is your country, and your illegal bombing 78 day bombing (which is a war crime), that is responsible for the conditions of the Kosovo Serbs today.
We don't care what you say, we care what you do. Everything the US has done in the past 15 years has been blatantly anti-Serbian, and you have basically adopted Germany's foreign policy in the Balkans. If I was you, I would be ashamed at what your country has become. History will prove Serbia right, and you will live in infamy.
If you would like to be friends with Serbia, please have a look at what Russia is doing, THAT is how true friends and allies behave. We don't need your crocodile tears, we want concrete actions.

Feel free to break out the vacumn cleaner & lend a hand to clean it all up as your government doesn't appear to mind exposing god knows how many civilians to the stuff.

> Speaking yesterday on the eve of the 10th anniversary of the start of the operation, Munter said that he felt sorry for the human victims and the material destruction.

In that case you won't mind answering all of Amnesty International's questions about the war crimes committed by NATO during the air strikes. Here's their report:

"I've never been a hen, but I know how the eggs are laid"
said a smart Serbian farmer.
So, I am not in diplomacy, but I know the language usages and the power of words.
So, Munter, 20 years of Yugoslavia's "wrong" doing before 1999 are to be paid, repaid, overpaid by Serbia over the next 20 years?
You, Munter, as a representative of your country are sorry for... ???
In case you don't know, there is a park in Belgrade called Tasmajdan. And two simple monuments in it. Ask any person to translate the inscriptions on them to you. You may choose then to apologise or not to apologize, won't make any difference.
And something more: you, as a representative of a country, have to work with NGOs and student groups in environment clean-up of another country? Why on that "diplomatic" level? Why you? Aren't you supposed to be dealing with such issues on state-to-state level?

PS.: Russia, thank you for sending your boys to clean up Nis airport.

The first thing to do for to show their good will would be to clean up their cluster bombs and their depleted uranium. Afterwards lets talk about reparation payments!

What has Serbia gained by renewing its embassies/ties to the U.S. but more of their self-serving comments and no real aid for the crimes the U.S. did.

"Improving the ecological situation in the town?" How about cleaning up the mess form your Uranium tipped radioactive weapons which have spiked cancer rates in Serbia over the past 10 years!

Bombing with depleted Uranium was done with the EU's help. This is the institution you want to sell yourself to. You don't have to join the EU to buy Nike and Levi's! Forget those criminals, With all those big Serbian heads, not one is found tofigure out what is pivotal about this country of Serbia. Can't figure out why other countries would want relations with you?

hmm,
I would have to say, without any sort of reservation that Mel Gibson's Family Guy apology was hands down the funniest apology ever. No one could compare to that.

BTW, thanks for the link and laugh...

Munter said that he felt sorry for the human victims and the material destruction. ???? Looking at your expressive face ...i wouldn't say so! Greets from Canada!
