The Quran states specifically that homosexuality is evil. In this your Radicals are right. It will never be tolerated in Kosova.
(Flamur, 20 March 2009 10:10)

Flamur, you live in wrong place than. A one-way fare from Pristina to Teheran is well under 200 Euro. If after a year with mullahs you are back and never want go there again, don't say I did not warn you.

I stay firmly away from "alternative lifestyle" and if I would ever learn, that my children are involved - I would be unhappy. Roberto - imagine the day you learn, your son is part of "alternative lifestyle" community. You will be not happy either an you will feel, it's a challenge in your life.

But challenge aside, they have their right to live a life to the fullest extent. If a parade is about that, let it be. Let them get married, if they want and let them live a life as close as possible to "normal" one.

Just for God's sake - don't even try to ask me to participate on that parade ;)

As long as the work is done and no one is offended everything is OK with me, be them straight engineers from Zagreb or gay Zulu warriors. But hope gay Zulu warriors won't mind, somehow my family will at first seek the friendship of straight engineers from Zagreb. Feel free to condemn me for that, but it's merely a "birds of feather" thing. ;)

The blatant homophobia is just becoming ridiculous. What is there to fear?

Martin, there's nothing wrong with teaching children about homosexuality. It exists in this world - what is the point of hiding reality? And anyway, teaching children about gays isn't going to make them gay. It's not a choice!

Homosexuals have contribute to society in many ways - just because someone is homosexuals that doesn't mean that's all they are. There are brilliant writers, scientists, actors, sportspeople, doctors, nurses, engineers who are gay in this world.

Just because the bible says something is immoral, doesn't mean it is. This law is not about 'gay parades' this law is about basic discrimination against a large minority of people who deserve the same rights as everyone else.

And to the guy who lives in Toronto but hates it because its tolerant of gays - move to Iran and stop complaining.

Dear #8,
You cannot ban a whole society.
Of course it is a good sign, you notice when your politicians agitate against homosexuals. Nevertheless you find it appropriate when the same people agitate against Albanians and launch really disgusting statements.

The problem is that Serbia (and also the other Serbo-Croatian-speaking-areas in the Balkans) struggles with modern concepts of religious freedom and separation between church and state, and between religious affiliation and ethnicity/nationality.

The Balkans did not pass trough the revolutionary/evolutionay mindset changes that swept Europe from the end of Middle Ages until the 20th century. And the clans that dominated the Balkans did not change their mindset even after the World Wars.

"Nikolic leaving the SRS officially puts the Radicals with the ranks of Le Penn of France and Zhriniovsky of Russia"

You obviously haven't been following the news for the last 20 years or so. The SRS has always been closely allied, both ideologically and in practice, with Le Pen. In 1998, while Seselj was deputy to "Socialist" party leader Milosevic, the SRS made Le Pen and honorary citizen of Belgrade.

I don't call for protests to be banned if I don't like the protest.

Seriously guys if don't like gays / other minorities (because I get the feeling all this comes together) move to a village. That way you can be surrounded by people that look like you and you won't be forced to consider issues like multiculturalism or homosexuality.

No, you don't have to like the idea of homosexuality. But recognise that they have rights just as the rest of us do.

It would be so easy to critique all the obvious homophobia and prejudice in the above comments, the parliament, serbian society, and say that it is reflective of the worst the nationalist impulse. that all is true, but it is by no mean limited to serbia. you can hear the same ignorance and prejudice in any city in the US, and probably in europe as well. and certainly throughout the balkans.

as a matter of fact, i had an unhappy surprise late last year to hear the same kind of remarks about "disgusting" toronto, but from a friend of mine, an enlightened young man very involved in the arts and with his share of GLBT friends and acquaintances. he comes from and currently resides in sarajevo. i had written how unhappy i was by the mini-pogrom of "fundamentalists" against the attendees of the queer event there, and he responded, "i agree with them." and his response was not unlike those i rec'd from SOME other bosnian friends.

were he a fellow american, our frndship would probably be impossible, but having grown up in yugoslavia, somehow i felt that i had to cut him (and others) some slack... perhaps it is reverse discrimination? we just have to agree to disagree.

but when you see it from a major party in the parliament, it is really quite disturbing.

we have to fight for our freedoms, wherever we live, whoever is in power. i don't care less what someone thinks about some parade. this isn't about parades, this is about people's lives, and allowing others a basic dignity and respect.

if you would prefer to live in a theocracy then go live in one; the last time i checked, theocracies were not being encouraged inside europe.

thank you.

Here in the United States they have taken the Bible out, kids wearing a t- shirt with reference to Jesus are made to go home and change. But because of the laws they passed they teach that homosexuals are normal and can raise children just as well as a heterosexual couple. I wouldn't have a problem of keeping religion out of government schools, if they didn't promote homosexuality to my children. You cannot take out one and promote immorality, but they are doing it. I hope Serbia is strong and does the right thing. Do not pass this bill or you children will be taught all about homosexuals and their great contributions to society.

"Martinović added that the SRS has nothing against people doing what they want in the privacy of their own homes, but they opposed promoting these things as social values."

One of the few things I respected about the Americans before they went increasingly liberal and left wing was their view that homosexuality was best left in the closet. America prospered when their focus was God and nation, but now they are going the way of previously decadent empires and civilizations.

Serbia should learn from this and take encouragement in our motto "God protects Serbs." This promise of national blessing is conditional however, as it was for God's own chosen people, the Israelites, who were chastised on a regular basis for disobedience. When we see that hard times are upon us, let's be reflective and willing to repent, stemming the tide of liberalism, and holding our politicians accountable.

I live in Toronto, one of the gay capitals of the world. I work in one of the largest financial companies in the world which happens to be situated in pretty much the heart of the gay community.
Let me tell you there is no greater feeling in the world when I am in Serbia where I am free of this disgusting society I live in. I can go freely to the book stores and not have to feel sick in my stomach about the countless amount of shemales trying to sell me their sex. I can go to clothing stores where I do not have to feel disgusted that the guys working are trying to check me out. I can walk down the streets without guys trying to pick me up.

I live in a city that no longer has any morals. Every year these pride parades become even sicker than the previous. Do I really need to see men all oiled up in thongs dance around and pull out their private parts and swing it around for kids to see so that I know that there is gay people in this society?

Ban the radicals!

Hate is not an acceptable way for the future. For example, all the nasty nationalism that thinks itself more important than people is what lead to the atrocious behaviour during the wars. The extreme nature of the radicals is representative of that lack of care for the welfare of others.

Liking homosexuality is not within the power of many of us, and society has been used to thinking of it as being distasteful. Further, concepts like marriage had a holiness associated with them that makes homosexual marriage appear a travesty. It does take a lot to come to terms with changing those attitudes.

My view is that 'civil partnership' should be seen as equivalent to marriage but should not be targeted to clash with the sensitivity of religious people by using the same word to describe it. However, religious people have to learn (and I mean learn) that their beliefs are exactly that 'beliefs', and as such are not absolute truths for those who do not share them. The belief that homosexuality is wrong does not comply with other stronger rights that people have under the freedoms given to us by the modern laws that now drive the 'free' world (which includes most of Europe).

The radicals are stuck in a corner and will take some time to catch up.

By the way, you do not have to be homosexual to be gay! Gay means happy! Let's all be happy and gay!

Ratko.. this is exactly what Seselj called Nikolic and Vucic, American spies.

You cannot call everyone who doesn't agree with you a spy. Nikolic and Vucic have been with Seselj since they entered politics. Do you really think out of nowhere they would follow what the United States tells them to do. Besides, the Radicals would have never had enough votes to form a government, their last chance to form a government expired last spring when this new government was formed.

Nikolic left the party because even though he helped the Radicals reach heights that they could never have reached without him, Seselj still had all the power in the party and Nikolic's ideas were left in the cold. Nikolic did take 2/3 of Radical voters with him, as the Serbian population is not interested in Chauvinistic policies but rather well balanced, modern and center right policies. Tadic never seriously feared the Radicals because he knew most other political parties would not form coalitions with them, however now Tadic has a lot to fear because now Nikolic is running his party his way and it is a much bigger threat than the Radicals ever were or ever will be.

The Quran states specifically that homosexuality is evil. In this your Radicals are right. It will never be tolerated in Kosova.

Feel free to condemn me for that, but it's merely a "birds of feather" thing. ;)
