Kosovo: Police harass reporters

Kosovo police, KPS, harassed two crews of reporters as they returned from a protest Serbs had staged in the village of Šilovo, near Gnjilane, on Friday.

The Kosovo police are trying to prevent by assault and intimiation any information to get out on the persecution of Serbs and the protests of the Serbs. Obviously the Serbs have no rights in the new Muslim government land of Kosovo. Why can't Hillary Clinton and Barak Obama know such a thing? The Kosovo Muslim government must know that the truths of the sufferings of the Serbs will be exposed to the world sooner or later, one way or another. Kosovo needs international civil rights activists and monitors.
(Steve, 16 March 2009 16:09)

Steve, Barack, Hillary and YOU, know that there is NO MUSLIM gonernment in Kosovo and there will never be one, Religion to Albanians is something that comes always as a secondary issue, everyone knows this.I do not think that the Religion is more respected anywere else in Balkans than in Kosovo.

roberto,
I find you freedom of speech comments to be heart warmingly funny. You claim to come from SF, in the freest western part of the USA. However, you seem to be under the veil of illusion. The USA has long ago lost its true freedom of speech. The journalistic industry is virtually all owned by a small group of 7 or so multi national companies. The news in the States is so sanitized it's beyond laughable. You wish to dictate freedom of speech lectures to anyone?
Living in Canada, where I have access to US, CDN, UK news 24/7 I see the collosal discrepancies between the three national news broadcasts, and the US news, by far is the most slanted, most biased, least free.
You are in no position to make judgements on anyone else's system.

They do NOT have the right to intimidate or punish anyone. That right is reserved to the judicial system and the courts.

If you advocate a situation where the police is to administer judgement on the spot, then you can say good bye to any illusion of living in a proper state.

Roberto,

First of all, it is not my Serbia since I am American. Secondly, as an American taxpayer financing US military intervention in the Balkans, I am interested in seeing my portion of the investment justified. When I hear the promise of a new "democratic" country and don't see results, I become all together skeptical of the idea. Your stance and how things have developed with regards to "democratic" progress is exactly why I am a Serbian supporter. Good luck, but you will never have my backing.

Roberto, freedom of speech means no attacks on reporters by police.

How often do you see Serbian police attacking reporters, even the ones from hostile countries?

Mike

The reason why you are being censored is probably because you spread hatred and lies.
(MikeC, 15 March 2009 00:05)

Hear hear. If Pejoni's benignly-fascist comment could pass the censors, I can only imagine what was spewing from roberto's keyboard. I'm amazed at what's posted here daily, and yet B92 posts everything that isn't directly hate-filled or openly derrogatory. So roberto, if you're going to cry "censorship", I really would like to know what you're writing, because it certainly must be something other than the peace, love, and harmony you want to be known for.

I wish to thank Albanian Posters for their posts. Otherwise I would not be able to have insight into opinion of Albanian people from Kosovo. I am surprised in what some of the Posters have written even if they think like that. Based on what I have seen here, I do not think that Kosovo deserves to be a state and it is unlikely that it will be. Such behaviour towards journalists is not acceptable and it is a sign of police-driven, undemocratic, system.

This incident directed against Serbian journalists is just a one in a sea of harassment that occur on the daily basis.

I have been to Kosovo and lived amongst the Albanians for few years. So, I do actually know what I am talking about. And, yes, I have been visiting frequently our province, even before Slobo's time. I am speaking about the time when Albanians used to run province and when the Albanians made vast majority in police forces in Kosovo province. Don’t forget, it was before Slobo's time.

The then police was even worse towards the Serbs in Kosovo province.

However, I can see and recognise the resurrection of dark years and continuing exercise "harassment type of democracy". The worse is about to come, so, people be prepared.

In addition, comments written by the Albanian posters in this site contribute a lot to y claims.

Best regards to democratic KPS

This is proof that you can tailor, pay for, and donate a bunch of police uniforms to Kosovo and think you're helping out a fledgling "state", but you can't expect the people who wear them to be anything less than the goons they've always been. Another wonderful job of one hand not know what the other is doing.

I suspect we'll be witness to more foolish comments like Pejoni's today simply because the police are Albanian and the victims are Serbian, but I'm more than convinced once again that had this same incident occurred in Serbia Proper, Pejoni and other Neo-Illyrian groupthinkers would be screaming "police brutality", "fascism", "we had to do it in self-defence because those Serbs looked mean to us", and "this is why we fought to break away". Hypocrisy at its best - but then again, this IS Kosovo.

With the way in which the police have been acting, and the way in which our Albanians have been commenting, tell me again, how this is a "multiethnic state"?

Your comments are more proof that you and Albanians in Kosovo are not prepared for a modern democratic and independent country. You see, in democracy, one has complete freedom of speech and the media cannot be intimidated by the government. What you are saying is completely contrary to those principles. Furthermore, the reason BBC and CNN don't get harrassed by the Kosovo police is simple, and I suspect that you fully understand the reasons behind it. You know as well as I do that Western media is biased towards the Albanian causes for a variety of reasons. The bottom line is that the freedom of the media is protected by freedom of speech, period.

Pejoni,

This situation with the reporters will always happen, unless you don't respect and get permission to enter this Country from Institution of Republic of Kosova. The dreams for Albanians is achieved.Long life UNITED STATES OF ALBANIA!

We used to be harassed same way and even worse when in KOSOVA was serbian police but it seems that has been forgoten from some people. I dont believe that is the truth so please stop spreading lies about KOSOVAN police.
(Ajsel, 14 March 2009 16:10)

That's the truth, Ajsel, They did kiss my behind - just because my country oval reads "USA".

I did see them harass trucks with license plates beginning with "BG" characters.

Next time if I see it, I maybe should stop and ask them, what's wrong with that truck.

...but every time I write about responsible freedom of speech i am censored.
roberto

You just wrote what you wanted to say and nobody cencored you!
If the media in Serbia is so horrible why do you keep coming here day after day after day? You think any Serb would be able to write his or her thoughts on an Albanian web site similar to B92? The reason why you are being censored is probably because you spread hatred and lies.

Roberto, freedom of speech means no attacks on reporters by police.

How often do you see Serbian police attacking reporters, even the ones from hostile countries?

USA

Yes! Let's do away with silly things like judges and courts. In fact, they should have been shot on the spot, right? Much cheaper than wasting money by keeping them alive in a jail. And we should send the invoice for the bullet to their families. No need for the state to pay for their execution right?

Dooh!

"Why doesnt AP, Reuters or BBC reporters face this kind of treatment? Answer me this question?"

You know the answer is because they are not Serbs.

What a load of ... wrongness. The police has one task only: To uphold the law.

They do NOT have the right to intimidate or punish anyone. That right is reserved to the judicial system and the courts.

If you advocate a situation where the police is to administer judgement on the spot, then you can say good bye to any illusion of living in a proper state.
