Peggy,

".... for Serbs to walk around free without having NATO escort."

The Kosovar leaders are doing everything they can to ensure that each citizen of Kosova lives in peace and enjoy all rights in democratic Kosova. Kosova leaders have already offered a Friendship pact to Serbia. Kosova leadership has invited Tadic to Kosova to talk PEACE. But unfortunetely the Serbian leadership hasn't got the guts to tell the TRUTH to Serbian people about Kosova but to MANIPULATE the Serbs living in Kosova to go against the democratic process.
I personally believe that the Kosova government has been extremely patient dealing with northern Kosova but one step at a time and the Serbian community has to understand the away forward is to join the Kosova institutions and there would be no need for Nato troops to escort them....

".. rebuild the churches they distroyed so these citizens of your country can worship in peace.
Absolutely right. The churches and other religious sites are treasure of Kosova. The only problem is that the religion has been used big time by Serbian polititian to manipulate the genuine believers.

"... restore power to Serb areas so they can keep warm and see at night."
An agreement should be reached to ensure the arrears are paid maybe by installments and of course every citizen in Kosova should enjoy the right of lighting...)

Your parallelism you put on oppression comparing the treatment of Kosova under Serbia's regime and the problems of Serbian minority in Kosova doesn't stand/add up I am affraid.

By the way I am originally from Tirana as well as UK resident and I haven't been to Kosova yet.

I think some of the Albanians posting here are scared that their most favored status will be threatened by Serbia. Believe it or not, Serbs have been friends with the US for a long time. It's nothing new. And regarding lap dogs, how dare an Albanian accuse Tadic of being a lap dog when all the streets in Pristina are being named after Americans or American TV shows? Have you all named a street after Paris Hilton yet? Tadic is OK with me. As an American of half Serbian origin (mother), I'm happy that Serbia wants to have good relations with my country. I am far happier with the present course of action than I was when Milosevic was in charge. Further, just because Serbia and the US are friends doesn't mean Serbia will give up Kosovo. Sorry to disappoint the Albanians out there, but that won't happen:-( Here's something you can learn from Serbs, have a backbone. Serbia is standing up to the world powers defending its rights while doing the right thing in cooperating with the tribunal.

Let me say it again. If a state oppress its "own" citizen it risks losing these people and the territory where they live in!
(EA, 11 March 2009 20:35)

Well said EA. Totally agree.
Now, you think that Kosovo is your country, then tell your leaders to make it possible for Serbs to walk around free without having NATO escort. Tell them to rebuild the churches they distroyed so these citizens of your country can worship in peace.
Tell them to restore power to Serb areas so they can keep warm and see at night.
In other words, tell your leadership to stop opressing their minorities or they will lose those territories where the minorities live.

Or does this only go for Albanian "victims"?

Maybe I was reading a different article to all those here that make comments about Tadic being a sellout or US lapdog. Did I not read that he clearly said that giving up on Kosovo would be giving up on the fundemental principals of international law? That sounds to me like a fairly clear statement about his position on Kosovo. I am not sure how that makes him a lapdog? He has met many foreign heads of state, does that mean he is a lapdog to all of them too? I think what it means is that he is participating in international politics, it is something that many politicians do these days! Would you all rather he took an isolationist stance and never left Serbia and never spoke with any other countries? Personally I believe that your President and Foreign Minister are both actually doing a good diplomatic job at the moment and from that perspective I would be hesitant to cast doubt on their ability or motives. They both appear to be motivated by the same things that I would suggest a larg number of Serbs are motivated by, namely keeping Kosova because of its historical importance to Serbia, integration into the EU because of the importance or Serbia's geographical and political position and maintaining peaceful and beneficial relations with the outside world. I, for one, currently applaude the way in which Serbia is presenting itself on all of these issues.

Michael, do nto insult the intellegince of any US President. They know a lot more than you think, especially this one since it's made of ex-Clinton officials. Many like Joe Biden, Hillary, Holbrooke etc know about the Serbian record on minorities.

Biden will ask him point blank: Have you apologized to the Albanians for what the Serbian state did to them? If no, why not?

Do you thing that Tadic went to Spain to “protect” those Montenegrins living in Albania?!!!! Only in Presevo Valley are over 60,000 Albanians. Tadic should talk about violation of human rights of Presevo Valley habitants.

All of you must try to get the broader picture the situation.
US doesn't care about the Balkans and Kosovo and Albaninas and Serbs. They just want to withdraw from this god's forsaken piece of land ASAP. But, their calculation is obvious: If they withdraw before they "resolve" the situation, they know they will have to return, and the cost of their return will be enormous.
So, they are seeking solution. As a matter of fact, they know what is the solution - SERBIAN SIGNATURE ON KOSOVO INDEPENDENCE.
That signature will resolve all their problems, and then they could pull out form the Balkans with the clear situation, leaving the resolution of economic problems to the EU.
But the question is - how could they get that SERBIAN SIGNATURE ON INDEPENDENCE?
They tried by providing the Ahtisaari plan, and they failed. They tried by "vast tide of recognitions", and they failed. They even failed to stop Serbia to shift the question of "independence" from political to juridical terrain - to the ICJ.

So, what the US will do to get that signature?

Of course, they will do something they are the best at.
They will start trading with Serbia.

So - if you reading carefully what is going on in the last couple of months, you should draw correct conclusion. Tadic will go to the US to start trading with Obama, with the sole purpose of getting Serbian SIGNATURE on the "independence".

Only thing I don't know is in which favor will be the result of that trade.

What do you think?

I seriousy doubt it. I would also point out that there is no other former FRY state that has more displa-ced persons than Serbia.

Peggy,

".... for Serbs to walk around free without having NATO escort."
