I've never been a fan of clerical fundamentalism whether that is Bush's or David Koresh's christian fundamentalism, catholic fundamentalism of the pope, muslum fundamentalism of the ayatollahs, or certain sections of the Serbian orthodox chruch.

But that is by the way, there will always be fundamentalists and their mindless followers. What is important is that they don't force their beliefs upon the rest of us.

If Catholic church and Imams are also against this why is Rasim so upset with the Serbian church only?

Peggy it doesn't take much effort to read really:
'They [the government] did not ask me to take part in the negotiations with the SPC and other religious communities, but even if they did, I wouldn't have accepted'.

The real question here is clericalism or not.

What is his opinion on the other two or he gives them the right to behave any way they want?
Are we going to accept double standards from our own politicians now too?

And that power is the Holy Synod? God? Does this happen before or after the death?

Olli,

That power is the God, who is suspected by many to exist, but his existence is not proven by a single being yet. All we have are our gut feelings. The situation you ask about is suspected by many to happen after the death, but there is no universal opinion about that.

Until that what remains, are the anti-discrimination laws - which Europe here, USA there and Kosovo again here - HAVE to be implemented, does SPC, Mufti of Jerusalem, Dalai Lama or some Orthodox Rabbi want it or not.

Because IMO in every secular society it's not SPC/Rabbi/Dalai Lama/Mufti business. Otherwise, inshallah, we should immigrate to Saudi Arabia.

On the positive side: I can have many wives than. But maybe having several wives is not all peachy.

Rick,

You say the Council of Europe "sets new human rights". You have something to object over the text of intended Serbian law? Or you object over the human rights views of the Council of Europe? Can you tell me what is it in the text of the anti-discrimination law that disturbs you?

You write: "People ultimately have to answer to a higher power than the Council of Europe." And that power is the Holy Synod? God? Does this happen before or after the death?

The Council of Europe, all most relevant European institutions dealing with human rights, have given agreement to this text of the law, but not in Serbia, the Church it seems knows better than any of them and for this reason it is given an opportunity to amend the alleged mistakes."

Rasim- it wasn't just the SPC, but rather the Catholic and the Muslim leaders as well. This is just one more reason that Serbs should be wary of the EU- when the Council of Europe "sets new human rights" standards for Europe- which want to supercede all religious teachings and guidance. People ultimately have to answer to a higher power than the Council of Europe.
