I am not sure Serbia should strive so hard to become a EU discriminated newcomer. One should wait and see how they go through the testimony of the economic crisis.

Besides Serbia can attract more investments from Russia than EU can afford now. I don't think Russia will put any political conditions concerning occupied Serbian territories or others.

Despite concerns that a poor east and rich west rift was forming a multi-billion euro bailout for the poorer states was rejected.

Eastern European leaders painted an apocalyptic picture of the state of their economies at yesterday's summit.
They have borrowed an estimated $ 1.7 trillion from
Western banks which they cannot possibly pay back.Austrian banks alone lent nearly $300 billion to Eastern Europe.
I can see there would be a downside to protectionism. With Germany-the paymasters of the EU-contracting at an annual rate
of 9%-and predictions that is going to get worse I cannot possibly see how the EU could bail out its weak members.
There are some who believe that the strains of the present crisis will force one
or more countries inside the Eurozone to leave the currency.
If that is allowed to happen the dynamics that will be created will probably lead to the dissolution of the whole project.
