A Novi Sad daily quotes its unnamed EU source and writes that "Foreign Minister Vuk Jeremić's behavior will cause an EU protest note"; EU officially denies.

"Honored Serbia's demand" not to have a liason office in Belgrade. Ha! How magnanimous! How about honoring Serbia's demand to respect international law and resolution 1244? How about doing something to protect Serbs and other oppressed minorities in Kosovo? How about abolishing the illegal EULEX mission? How about the end of putting Serbia through conditions and obstacles that no other country is forced to go through?

Thanks. The real 'outrage' is the EU's continual cavalier attitude towards international law and the territorial integrity of Serbia. And...it appears that this 'report' itself is based on fake or faulty information. No such "humiliation" of the EU representative ever occurred.

i had had the greatest misfortune of working with sorensen.
according to my sources and former colleagues, sorensen went into a meeting all pompous and arrogant and whilst jeremic politely reminded him that the serbian government (as it is already a well known fact) will not negotiate with eu/eulex or anything that has any connections with eu (for serbia does not acknowledge the presence of eu in kosovo), but only with un/umik and their respective officials/representatives.
so, he went all ballistic and threw a tantrum like a 5 year old. the reason why solana and others do not intend to pursue any actions against serbian government is because they already know that sorensen was responsible for the entire incident.

RE: Albania and Italy

All economic indicators for Albania are below Serbia's and it is only going to get worse. The SAA agreement means nothing, the EU made a mistake allowing early entry to Bulgaria and Romania without meeting the EU requirements fully, Albania has a longer road than the aformentioned countries.

Italy may have some projects going in the "Albanian Riviera" but they are the highest debt nation in the EU and liquidity is drying up in all EU countries. Even Fiat is having problems and have already indicated that funding for Zastava in Belgrade is in question now.

Jeremic as FM, like Tadic as former PM, is still caught in the foreign politics of Kostunica, which denied Serbia's way to Europe. This is well seen by Rada Trajkovic in Gracanica in her interview with Radio Free Europe on 29 January, in which she accuses the Serbian government: "Trajkovic added that Belgrade's negative reaction "is feeding the Kosovo Serbs' frustrations and could further separate Serbs from the international community."

By continuing the Serbian government's stance on Kosovo, still the same as Milosevic' thinking and handling that started in 1988, this government has only two trump card left: the ICJ and Russia. Both cards are not the securest to play with, that's why Jeremic always has to show himself very optimistic about the outcome of the game.

To those Serbs who may think that the EU's days are counted. There are two currencies that are reigning the world's economy, even in times of decline: the Dollar and the Euro. The economies of Russia, China, India are all depending on those. As long as this is the fact, and I see no reason it wouldn't be, we all are depending on them and the policy of the Nations that are standing behind it, if you like it or not, get used to it, before it is too late!
In our days it is easy to let a Serbia with big financial problems go bankrupt.

Jeremic's political future is just being built up with such actions.

It is obvious, that as a FM he was really active and has achieved a lot for Serbia, but on this way he stepped over the shoes of many people, you better don't step on.

But, I think he is just building up some credits in Serbia itself.

I wouldn't wonder if he would candidate soon for PM of Serbia.

cheers!

Realist, why would anyone block Albania? Albanian has no problems with anyone. All Albanian has to do is listen to EU, apply the reforms and wait. Plus, NATO membership is a powerful tool to shave a year or two off EU accession as they share the same 'values'.

Albanian riviera is waiting to be utilized so the economy can quickly improve. Italy alone has started work on $4 billion in energy projects

Hey all, Solana's spokeswoman just said in the last paragraph that the source is not credible.

Why bother with the comments on something which is not even true?
If in case it is true, then Mircea you have your answer.

Looks like Serbia has decided that EU is not as attractive any more as nothing good comes from it, for Serbia anyway.

the us and eu are the biggest trading blocs in the world. Their gdp is over 13 trillion usd. However, this recession will hit them worse than ever before. All the billions being pumped into smaller underdeveloped (relatively) nations will stop as the countries being taking protectionist measures so they can get re-elected. Its the sad truth but look at france already! They just pumped in 7 billion into their automarket and foreign auto-workers from neighboring countries are already crying foul! The only country rebound soon (in my opinion) is china, because their stiumulus package will actually stimulate their economy, while political bixkering will make the us stimulus uneffective as well as any interaction from the ECB (european central bank)

Why join a club that's on its way down? Its my understanding that the SAA implementation that we serbs put in hurts our exports right? So we are begining to appease the EU. Do any of us who are pro-EU honestly think Germany and UK will let us in? Come on! Germany wants to have influence over the balkans, but we are serbs! We don't give in like the rest! But that comes with losses. Look at the albanians. They suck up and whatever theier told but in the end what happens? A greater ethnically cleased albania! Same for other countries too.

The balkans are a playground for proxy wars being led by bigger countries.

Also one should understand that Jeremic is just a functioner who can do quite little against the majority of EU. So there's no need to soot the piano player ... The world must change and change Europe before a solution for Kosovo and Metohija is found.

2/ I am not sure that the EU membership idea-fix is so good for Serbia. First of all because I am rather pessimistic about EU future. Within the fast developing crisis EU may change drastically to become less attractive for poor newcomers.

3/ Also I am very dissapointed that the Serbs and the Albanians are so radical. All wars one way or another end with peace and none of you can afford wasting so much efforts in vain.

Jeremic had it coming. This gaffe, coupled with his statement about ICJ, shows his inability to hide his frustration. What's his problem? He had hoped that by taking the issue to ICJ, Serbia in the meantime would capture Mladic and made it close to EU, hopefully dragging Kosova with it, and then he would declare himself a second Milo Obilic.
EU and Kosova are both very delicate and difficult problems. Serbia trusted these to an erratic man that behaves like a teenager. It's no news that anyone dealing long enough with Kosova, sooner or later will loose his mind and allow anger to replace rationality. Even Tadic today, talks angrier than ever. But Jeremic, well he is simply an arrogant and arrogance is a guarrantie for failure. He will get the boot soon. His "lecturing" is paying him back. No one will miss him.

This is the way all politicians should be treated when they don't adhere to laws and agreements that they've made and agreed upon. The more the Euro and American politicians dislike you the more the rest of the world is convinced that you are a honorable, virtuous, and a God fearing young man worthy of respect on a global scale. Croatia is almost in, and Albania's SAA has been approved by 27/27 nations, Serbia's hasn't been activated yet. the us and eu are the biggest trading blocs in the world.

Diplomatic slap in the face for the EU...oh well.

Well done Vuk.

I agree, well done Vuk.
You should do it again, every two weeks if possible.

Excellent job Vuk! You have my strongest support and really hope that you will have enough strength to close the EU office in Belgrade once thier representatives overstep thier duties or demonstrate even the slightest disrespect for Serbia.

He believes that Jeremić's "demonstration" was unnecessary, "considering that the meeting was closed to the public "

The difference between a "real" FM and a fake one is that the real one says what he thinks even if the meeting is open for the public or closed for the public.

Bravo Vuk, show them some Serb "inat" (spite).

Jovan

this "incident" has no meaning, actually.

it´s more kind of a show-event, in order to get support from the serbian public.

internationally it has no great effect at all. that´s why they made it happen.

after all, it´s only just another worthless B92-headline...

Jeremic's political future is just being built up with such actions.

It is obvious, that as a FM he was really active and has achieved a lot for Serbia, but on this way he stepped over the shoes of many people, you better don't step on.

But, I think he is just building up some credits in Serbia itself.

I wouldn't wonder if he would candidate soon for PM of Serbia.

cheers!

This present government is in place thanks to the EU.If it did happen the script was well rehearsed and was merely for public consumption and not with serious intent. It is all theatre and we are just spectators , unfortunately.

Even Fiat is having problems and have already indicated that funding for Zastava in Belgrade is in question now.

i had had the greatest misfortune of working with sorensen.
according to my sources and former colleagues, sorensen went into a meeting all pompous and arrogant and whilst jeremic politely reminded him that the serbian government (as it is already a well known fact) will not negotiate with eu/eulex or anything that has any connections with eu (for serbia does not acknowledge the presence of eu in kosovo), but only with un/umik and their respective officials/representatives.
so, he went all ballistic and threw a tantrum like a 5 year old. the reason why solana and others do not intend to pursue any actions against serbian government is because they already know that sorensen was responsible for the entire incident.
