Imagine the Slovenians are voting if Croatia will be in NATO and probably in EU or not. When the Croatian wind bags President Stjepan Mesić & Prime Minister Ivo Sanader denied the Croatian citizens those God given fundamental democratic rights to a vote on their future. Now the pompous know it alls are being bitten on their pompous elites asses. This is one Croatian says and many more bring it on Slovenia lay all the cards on the table.

To those who don't understand why the Balkan countries should join NATO, and also to the envious Serbs here ( not all of you are envious, some of you truly believe NATO is evil.)

If you are in NATO, NATO can't bomb you. Look at Serbia as an example. Also other alliances or any other country not in NATO that would think of attacking you, would think twice if you are a NATO member. With that of course there is price to pay. Nothing is for free in this world. The whole thing is that if those costs benefit us in the long run. I happen to think they do, especially since in Albania the Army is voluntary now. So if you want to go to Afghanistan you ca go. Nobody will make you go there. Nobody will pick you up from the street, send you in the army and then Afghanistan.

Quote "Croatian President Stjepan Mesić reacted immediately, stating that “the elite of the neighboring country has decided that it can use its membership in the EU and NATO to blackmail us.”

“So much for consistency! So much for Europeanism!” he stormed, adding that the impasse was now the EU and NATO’s problem, not Croatia’s.

.....Welcome to Macedonian Life, Mr President!!

Comment 1 yes you are correct the Afgan theatre is becoming a failure, with the UK and US taking most of the hits more NATO troops are needed.

To be honest i am not sure why the Balkan states are keen to join NATO and the EU it brings no real benifits to the average man in the street, we Brits are no better off under the EU.

Peter, it's all about Slovenia's desire to get access to International water. They have only about 45km of shoreline and currently no access to International waters and they are disputing a small bay with Croatia.

Srbslav, a country like Croatia or Albania cannot be expected to send more than 200-500 troops to Afghanistan. It's all part of being a NATO member. Shall I mention the benefits like being armed by US and other richer countries and being protected by 27 top countries?

Don't worry Croatia, US will somehow make you a member of NATO regardless of Slovenias objections. Why? Because they need more NATO soldiers in Afghanistan fighting the unwinable war against the Taleebans. And they rather use NATO soldiers than American ones.

You se, NATO membership comes with obligations also, not only bragging rights about being a member of "the club" without actually doing anything for them...
