It is stupid to believe that Serbia has anything against prosperity of Kosovo. After all , and Serbs and Albanians can only benefit from economic improvement. So Tachi is a nice-looking man but he's lying to accuse Tadic of wishing bad things to their 'country'. Tadic as we know has a different problem with their self-proclaimed government.

By the way I just realized that Kosovo is nowhere to find in NY Times list of states and territories. Sejdiu, according to NY Times is a president of Serbian province of Kosovo.
Khm, khm...

Milan,

Our "Finish[sic] journalist" friend is in fact another irredentist Albanian. You should know that by now that 'Team Kosova' here use many monikers to disguise themselves such as 'roberto' from 'frisco', "Burkina Faso guy" and even yes, "Elvis Presley" the King Himself.

The outrage :)

“The independence process has started and nothing can stop it any longer,” said Thaci, repeating his willingness to come to Belgrade for talks that would be "to everyone’s benefit"

Serious question to all Serbs: I am not very familiar with the policies regarding license plates. Do you have fancy license plates people can custom-order from the police for extra fee?

If that's the case, I see a lot of benefit Thaci coming to Belgrade. I would not mind to have a license plate hand-made by him, truly a collector's item.

I don't think, he would be a great burden for Serbia's taxpayers, there is a lot of for-profit activities he can do and pay for the well-deserved 10-20 years of "free" food+lodging.

I have to disagree with any comparison by Bganon of the Albanian worship of the USA with the Serbian attitude towards Russia.

Normally I agree with his/ her points, but I am surprised that there is such cynicism about genuine ties existing between Russia and Serbia.

Not just the opportunitistic 'my enemy's enemy is my friend' type approach of the US to the KLA in 1999.

Of course there is always a possibility of friendly countries letting each other down - but the ties between Serbia and Russia obviously run deep - even among the people.

A dismissal of historical ties is what I would expect from an American or a careerist eurocrat. That seems very out of line with your usual points, or maybe I just read it wrong.

I do agree that no matter how strong the tie, you should never become dependent on anyone else - either as a nation or an individual.

Who cares if Russia recognizes Kosovo Mr. Tachi. What you need is more recognitions from other Christian countries especially from some here in Latin America. If you put your hope in Russia and some of the Islamic countries then, you may never see a Kosovo UN seat in your lifetime.

Maybe your envoys for some part of the world may not have the right tools to get those recognitions. I´d be glad to help here with some of the latin American countries.

I want to remind all of my Serbian neighbors what your former foreign minister VUK Draskovic once said "NEVER SAY NEVER". You should never say that Serbia will never recognize Kosovo that is just not true!

Obviously Thaci is trying to irritate Russians. The good news is that as long as Russia does not recognize, the US will continue to support albanians openly. It wants to defy Russian influence in the Balkans especially in Serbia, which has a long been a Russian satelite in Europe.

As long as Russia is openly with Serbia most likely the US will stand with the Albanians.

We all saw the premature EU membership of Romania and Bulgaria, in order to keep them away from Russian influence.

Bgannon you wrote,

*They would be responding to a question from the Serbian media. BTW you can be sure that somebody has contacted the Russian embassy for comment and that perhaps other Russian officials have been contacted.*

What question? They are not responding to the Serbian media because Serbian media has not contacted them about this.
Why do you think that Serbia media would contact them every time Thaci makes a claim?

Only a few days ago Russia has assured Serbia that they will not be recognizing Kosovo. Don't you think that it would be even rude to ring Putin and ask him to clear this up for the 1000th time simply because Thaci said so.

I think we have to take Russian word for it and if they change their mind, I'm sure the announcement will come from them and not Thaci.

Give Russia a little more respect.

miri if Russia and the US were to back out of the issue and decide that Belgrade / Kosovo Serbs and Pristina may decide upon Kosovo's future that would be fine with me.

(bganon...)

It sounds too simple to be true. After all, didn't we tried to talk to you directly for 10 years peacefully through Rugova? All we wanted then was just autonomy. There was no mendling of USA or Russia at that time. But you refused to even listen. Please don't tell me it was only because of one evil man, Milosevic. After all he was freely elected by Serbs.

Today we want independence for reasons that are too long to elaborate in this passage. Again you don't even want to listen about it.

How can we talk and solve it ourselves then? What's you proposal?

Even if the Russian government drinks all vodka available it will not occur to them to do what the Snake said. So I think this guy is just training to meet the Fool April. Russia has no problems with the recognition mentioned cause until the Serbs change their mind Russia sees the region only as a part of Serbia. After all what has happened one must be both deaf and blind or an insane not to know that. Neither is the problem discussed in Russia. All Russians think the same as FC Zenith fans that Kosovo is Serbia ! Moreover very often in mass media they mention it as Kosovo and Metohija.
But I personally doubt it very much that our Serbian brothers would be happy to live in one house with people to admire Haradinai and Snake kind of guys. There must be a compromise and unlike most of the visitors here I don’t know how to do it. What I know for certain is that the key to the problem is kept in Washington and the lock is kept in Moscow. So hopefully both the new Presidents will find time and good will for Kosovo problem too.

The most obvious outward sign of dementia and delusion is when a person only sees what he wants to see and only hears what he wants to hear. As far as any Russian recognizing Kosova I think the snake only read the first sentence in the letter sent to him by the head of the Russian mafia which said" Dear Snake we recognize you as the head of the Kosova Albanian mafia" but Thaci neglected the seconf part which read"and we are looking to exterminate you and your organization because we want the whole Europe underworld to ourselves".LOL

Russia already paid for the aquisition of NIS.That is Putin's property now.Try to take it away from him if you can. What is left for you Serbs now is to pray that they will keep their promise regarding Kosovo. The ball is in the russian court now. Before they recognized S&O and Abkhazia they insisted that Kosovo was a precedent, now they totaly dismiss any similarities. You should be careful of that, cause it brings the russian aproach closer to the west who said Kosovo is a Sui Generis case. By recognizing the two republics Russians just invited americans to mendle even closer to russia. From a Georgian problem now it is a Russian problem. And the US is going to use it as leverage any time they need to cut deals with the russians. Sometimes they will forget about it and sometimes will insist in resolving it.Russian stand on kosovo might change in to asking autonomy for the Serbs in Mitrovica or total division of Serbian part of Mitrovica in exchange for kosovo recognition.

"What the Russian papers say:
Russia benefiting from Kosovo independence

(Finish journalist, 19 February 2009 17:08)"

Finish journalist,

I read the link you provided and if you had read it more carefully yourself you would have figured out that all the things Russia so-called "benefited" from Russia could have done or gotten with or without the illegal UDI. So there was no real benefits whatsoever (the NIS example is a very poor one and it unrelated). Even if the Russians benefited it does not obligate them to return the favor to for instance the Kosovo Albanians and their Western masters. I hope that the general level of Finish journalism is not the same as the level of your comment or the descentsy of your "famous" and "beloved" countryman Martti Ahtisaari. The main conclusion remains the same: an UNSC veto from Russia for everything that has to do with Kosovo's UDI and its desperate desire to become an UN member. Maybe the KLA should indeed try to conquer Moscow like CG (#21) suggested and then Russia will recognize Kosovo as anything else but a province of Serbia. And that will happen when hell freezes over or pig will fly.

Interesting information about Mr. Thaci.

Seems "Snake" Thaci's questionable activity has been a long-held interest of the German foreign intelligence service, BND.

SPIEGEL piece says...

..."For a number of years, Kosovo has been a major operational area for the BND. In addition to being politically unstable and located not far from Germany's borders, it is a hotbed of organized crime with links to Germany and is a country where numerous German police officers and soldiers are stationed"

"There are no less than three BND departments focusing on Kosovo, including Department Five, responsible for organized crime, the same department that certified in 2005 that Prime Minister Thaçi is a key figure in a Kosovar-Albanian mafia network. At the time, the confidential report was quickly leaked to the media. Thaçi has never forgiven the Germans for that."

miri if Russia and the US were to back out of the issue and decide that Belgrade / Kosovo Serbs and Pristina may decide upon Kosovo's future that would be fine with me.

I don't need somebody to hold my hand. All I want is some fairness on the issue.

'bganon, why should Russia respond to someone they don't even recognise?'

They would be responding to a question from the Serbian media. BTW you can be sure that somebody has contacted the Russian embassy for comment and that perhaps other Russian officials have been contacted. There may even be an official event (to do with say Gasprom) where a Russian official has no choice to avoid answering a question. It is the job of the media to find out whats going on and quite often you can read as much into what somebody does not say, if they choose not to say anything. Lets see if anything happens.

CG give me a break; 'brothers' and 'enemies'. Its like coyboys and indians for me. I don't believe in fairy stories any more. Just because I'm free to criticise Russia one day, America the next and the Serbian government the day after, does not make me anti any of them. It might just mean that none of them abide by the principles they should. I do not represent the Russian interest. My concern is for the citizens of Serbia, all the citizens of Serbia.

As for them never betraying us, tell that to somebody with amnesia. We remember the mysterious Russian fleet sailing to save us against NATO. We also remember that Russian / Milosevic proposed Slavic union that never materialised in the 90's.
There is also a saying in Serbia translating something like 'God save us from Russia's protection'.

So you stop with the Russian hero worship already. No state has born friends or enemies. We have mutual interests and at most a shared origin that makes us closer. That alone is not enough, unless there is a shared interest.

It really sounds as if you need somebody to hold your hand in the type of way that some Albanians need the Americans.

This is almost comical. Everytime Thaci says something people here start running in circle and screaming "Fire, Fire!"

Jokes aside, Thaci plainly says what the real problem is; Russia. No one is actually concern about what Tadic and his friends say and do. Tadic's interviews and speeches are there only to show how far apart, today's Serbian regime is from reality. Their rhetoric is soaked in frustration and "jelosy" for lack of better word. He and Jeremic, are ridiculing themselves in the eyes of international community when they pretend that they can solve problems by talking to the remnants of UNMIK. They try so much to be politically correct for their Serbian constituents that they completely make fools of themselves.

Thaci is right. Once Russia withdraws its veto on UNSC, Serbia will fall like a rotten apple. Not that this will be easy or anytime soon, but at least he recognizes the real problem for what it is. To anyone that has a little maturity, is obvious that it is much easier for Russia to withdraw its veto than US, France, Britain etc. withdraw their recognition.

Way to go Thaci!

The A-Plan is dead and long buried with the only people clinging to it being the Albanians. All discussion is now focused on the 6-point plan, which was confirmed in the UN Security Council by all permanent members, Russia, China and yes the US, France and the UK.

Now that we have the rule of law in place, the Albanians have to remain pacified while watching their dreams slowly disappear before their very eyes. The 6-points are open to interpretation so there is some flexibility but the Serbian areas remain firmly under Serbian control.

So much for independence when large parts of the province are free while the other parts are isolated. This is just another of the many misguided policies that have originated from the US and Germany in recent times. It is all being undone as we speak.

There is a lack of belief that the province is being run by the UN (and Belgrade in the North); now Russia is going to recognise Kosovo??

Sometimes they will forget about it and sometimes will insist in resolving it.Russian stand on kosovo might change in to asking autonomy for the Serbs in Mitrovica or total division of Serbian part of Mitrovica in exchange for kosovo recognition.

miri if Russia and the US were to back out of the issue and decide that Belgrade / Kosovo Serbs and Pristina may decide upon Kosovo's future that would be fine with me.

Why do you think that Serbia media would contact them every time Thaci makes a claim?

Only a few days ago Russia has assured Serbia that they will not be recognizing Kosovo. Don't you think that it would be even rude to ring Putin and ask him to clear this up for the 1000th time simply because Thaci said so.

I think we have to take Russian word for it and if they change their mind, I'm sure the announcement will come from them and not Thaci.

Thaci is a disillusional person who still has not understood that the Martti Ahtisaari's plan has been dead for a long time (a plan is a plan and nothing more) and that Russia will NEVER recognize Kosovo as an independent state (it recognizes Kosovo as a province of the Republic of Serbia, a sovereign UN member). Fortunately all common sense people in the world are ignoring these PR "stunts" and it is clear that Thaci is feeling some heat and he has to say all kinds of things ((whether they are lies or not) to keep the home base "happy" and diffuse internal frustration that could spill into unrest and violence if this limbo situation continues.

It is becoming quite apparent that the illegal entity called "Kosova" relies totally on the recognition of Serbia and it simply is never going to happen! What do these terrorists expect? Serbia to hand over its heart and soul, the cradle of our civilisation to a bunch of delusional criminals? These tactics may work in the criminal underworld but they certainly won't on the internation stage.

I don't know how many times Russians have to say NO to this man he continues to talk through his hat.
I guess he just can't take no for an answer.

Russians will recognize Kosovo without Serbia when they elect a Dardanian as their president, and their people start worshiping Hitler instead of Jesus as their saviour.

miri if Russia and the US were to back out of the issue and decide that Belgrade / Kosovo Serbs and Pristina may decide upon Kosovo's future that would be fine with me.

Sounds like a good plan. Let's get it done!

I want to remind all of my Serbian neighbors what your former foreign minister VUK Draskovic once said "NEVER SAY NEVER". You should never say that Serbia will never recognize Kosovo that is just not true!
