Dear Joe,
You use the argument that Slovakia's internal issues with minorities is behind their rationalle to block Kosovo's UDI, and that somehow these minorities are not treated as wonderfully as they should be.
I'd venture to ask you to point to a country where minorities are treated as well as you seem to think that they should be.
While you're searching for such a country, might I remind you to immediately skip over the US. They have such a vivid and colourful history of minority mistreatments. In fact this historical tapestry is still being stitched together to this very day. England, France, Germany. Hah, no real respects for their miniroties either.
Minotiries the world over are treated as well as they can be, depending on the nature of the country and it's relationship to miniroties and immigrants.

So, since the Slovaks have some issues within their own dominion, that they would prefer not having to deal with, you seem to see fit to condem them for thinking about themselves.
Once the US grants it's indigeounous population their lands back, once the US pays for the reperations of enslaving a number of nations of Africa, once the US treats all of it's minorites equally, once the "world's self-proclaimed ethical leader" becomes more ethical then you can expect others to follow. Until that time we can all keep dreaming of a world that is fair and honest and not run by the gluttonous few.

Again, let it made clear that Slovakia has every single right award to them to make up their own mind according to their own interests.

JC, USA,

It is well-known that Slovakia is not recognizing Kosovo because of her large Hungarian minority, 10% of the population. The Slovaks are afraid that those Hungarians would ask for some kind of autonomy. And currently, instead of treating this minority correctly with egual rights, they are more and more discriminated. Did the Slovaks took a page from an other friendly country's book about treatement of minorities?

I would be more inclined to think that attitudes like the similar to those of EA are the problem. It would seem that within Slovakia the overwhelming support is for the denial of recognition, and subsequently this government followed through with their commitments to democracy and sided with its population. If you can find fault in a democratic country demonstrating a high level of democratic process than I accept that.
Furthermore, the nonsense of labeling countries as irrelevant seems rather ironic when expelled from the fingertips of someone supporting Kosovo in its quest for acceptance and relevance. One should seriously reconsider thier words at times.

So what you're saying is that the EU should become a totalitarian dictatorship and stamp out dissenting voices when it is convenient?

The opposing countries have legitimate concerns & principles and are not "blocking" just for the sake of blocking! It is actually good to see that these countries have the courage to question and oppose the status quo!

There is a problem with few EU countries not recognising yet Kosova as an independent country. Their problem is purely INTERNAL! I respect their stance but when it comes to "blocking tactics" there is a MAJOR issue within EU which needs to reform itself and stripping off these irrelevant countries abusing their powers given to them in good faith! Whatever happens nothing on earth can make Kosova return to Serbia. Happy birthday to Kosova in its independence!
