So now you are accusing the UN of deceit???? What will you think of next?

"It is in his personal capacity that he congratulated Kosovo. He didn't congratulate on behalf of Europe."

Radoslav,

Maybe so, but the comments from the albanian posters (however mistaken) believe it is exactly on behalf of the EU (something else they don't understand).

Feith has a sensitive political role and is supposed to be a diplomat. Personal issues and opinions are not normally considered acceptable if it conflicts with your official position.

As there is no unanimity in the EU on Kosovo's independence, then Feith should be hold a neutral stance. But then again, the EU has quite lax standards as long as it doesn't apply to themselves. I only think of Paddy and how the Last Viceroy behaved in Bosnia, not to mention the continued advice of western ambassadors to serbia about how to run their own country, normally quite helpfully published here on B92 Opinions.

Kujon and Kate,

Why are you being so upset about Feith's comment. You are more "upset" than Slovakia, Greece, Cyprus and Spain which have been "denied" their opposition by Feith) Be REAL and stop using the others to use "BLOCKING" tacktics otherwise you will block yourself and never been freed!

We're just a bit early, but i also wish to congratulate the people of kosovo/a -- despite enormous odds and the ongoing non-stop harassment and obstacles you've done pretty well, which in this situation means fantastic.

All my love and support from the US, and thank you again to all of our pro-democracy friends and supporters, of all ethnicities, from around the globe.

52 weeks 54 recognitions.

Kosovo is celebrating 1st year of independence and international recognition.

Dont disturbs us, but join us.

Thank you USA, EU and the progressive world.

I totally agree with the sentiments that an EU representative should not be congratulating on independance. He should have made his comments in a personal capacity so all concerned can be sure of the stance of the EU rather than that of the individual. By the same token I would hope that all who read Steve from UK's congratulations dont then assume that all of UK are in agreement with what is happening in Kosovo because I feel certain that if UK citizens were provided with unbiased information by the press and the government of UK then they may be at odds with the governments apparent support of the UDI. I may be wrong but it would be at least fairer if all were able to make judgements based on factual reporting of the events rather than some heavily biased propoganda designed to allow justification of decisions taken.

Sorry to burst your bubble about 1244 but it recognizes Belgrade's sovereignty over Kosovo!

The entire point of 1244 is for people only to belive that Belgrade is sovreign.

Thank you Mr.Feith! This message clarified doubts about neutrality of EU mission in Kosovo regarding its political status. Fair enough...

So many things are happening these days in Kosovo.

Majority 95% of people or more celebrate the day of independence.
Kosovo will be having state visit from Serbia to celebrate Independence day, of course on their own way.

Jeremic will be starting to negotiate 6 PINT plan with Zannieri, plan which will keep Kosovo as part of Serbia.

Ordinary Serbs in North of Kosovo have already started to oppose the rule of mafia in Kosovo.

A small part of Serbs in Serbia and abroad still believe that Kosovo and it population want to live with Serbia.

To end this, I think that I will join Kosovars, Albanians, Turks, Bosniacs, Ashkali, Roma, Serbs in celebration of Independece day, since it sound more realistic and tangible.

Also, I would like to thank all in here that made Kosovo Independece happen including those that support 1244, the very same resolution that allowed Independence to happen.

Cheers

hope to celebrate as a family in 2017 the 60th EU birthday together.
(Rolla, 16 February 2009 12:25)

Hope, too - not impossible, but very tough. At this moment the biggest issue is not even the controversy around your (in)dependence, it's the economy being down. People and companies have money, have ideas - but it looks like an evil wizard told everyone "stop" and everyone (Serbia included) is frozen. Kosovo and Albania being mostly "family"/"clan" business is lesser affected - yet. But as less monies are coming in, you will feel. The situation is completely crazy. It has to change for better within months - otherwise forget 2017, even 2027 because there won't be 60th or 70th birthday of EU.

kate

This is totally inappropriate and provocative. Kujon is right - the EU as a body has not recognised independence. Only individual countries.

Feith should be taken to task for coming out with such an outrageous statement, or there should be a follw-up statement from the EU reaffirming that they do not, as a body, follow the same line.

If he is irresponsible enough to come out with comments such as this, it's hardly surprising that he's getting the boot. The man's a loose cannon.

Isn't his mandate over yet? Perhaps he's just making sure that he wrings out the last of the goodies coming his way.

I'd like to congratulate Serbia on the wonderful work it's done to keep Kosovo it's own. If it weren't for the tireless work of Jeremic and Tadic, all within the framework of international law (unlike the UCK/KLA when they fought to take Kosovo from Serbia). If it weren't for the work of these good men, there probably would have been a great deal more recognitions than he paltry 54 so that Kosovo got after one full year (that's 365 days). Keep it up guys, and remember you have friends in America. Not all Americans are supporting Kosovo's independence.

Kujon

pre 15 godina

This doesn't seem right. since the EU has left it to member states to recognize Kosovo or not, an EU representative should not congratualte on independence, since some members don't think Kosovo has independence.

If you wish to speak on behalf of your country ok, but not as an EU representative. That isn't right.
