Where has this ghostly statistic of 3.5 Billion $ investement from italy come from? And why after 3.5 Billion pounds worth of energy money would you need to build yet another Nuclear power station with the obvious dangerous resulting from it' contruction.

I couldnt agree more with Villege-bey, the project may be worth while in better circumstances but at this moment in time it would naive for Albania.

"One, neither Croatia nor certainly Albania have the funds to do this and 2, it would only fuel Iran's argument that there is a double standard, and they would be right, remember the Balkans is by no way a stable region in the world."

Money is easy to find for energy, Italy for example just invested some 3.5 BILLION Euros in energy projects in Albania (much will be exported to Italy). If XX% of the energy can exported to energy hungry Italy, thestate and private corps can easily find the money.

As for Iran: Both Croatia and Albania will be NATO members in 2 months, so trust is there. Plus, this is truly for energy, not nukes.

Not a chance of this ever happening! For two reasons. One, neither Croatia nor certainly Albania have the funds to do this and 2, it would only fuel Iran's argument that there is a double standard, and they would be right, remember the Balkans is by no way a stable region in the world.

Not many Albanians would share Berisha’s enthusiasm for nuclear energy nor his vision of Albania as a recycling yard for everybody’s rubbish.
In contrast with these grand investment schemes stands his dismissive attitude towards property rights in Albania. It is well and good for Berisha to dismiss this problem but with all due respect he is speaking from a highlander’s perspective. I do understand that his personal experience of the old tribal insistence on the public ownership and constant scarcity of land on the highlands might have influenced his overall thinking and approach to this subject, but that is never a good excuse to build a democracy in these shaky foundations. If he claims to have substituted the former communist apparatchiks and the dreaded sigurimi officers, he has should at least make a clean break from their practices and reinstate the land to the rightful owners.
