Let's suppose Serbia recognises Kosova as independent do you REALLY think China and Russia will say NO because of Taiwan or Tibet?

EA, of course China will then recognize Kosov. So will Russia and everyone else, but since Serbia will never do this they will not either.

How many times do you have to be told that Russia and China will support Serbia in whatever they decide?
What does this tell you?
It tells me that it won't happen.
China supports talks and so does Serbia and Russia.

How on earth do you read independence OK from China or Russia without Serbia's blessing?

I really cannot understand your reasoning.

EA, you speak with forked tongue. China have sided with Serbia, end of story. The Ahtisaari plan was never voted on in the UN therefore never passed as any resolution, as a matter of fact, the moment it was to be voted on, it was going to fail due to the veto's of China and Russia. So Ahtisaaris plan is actually illegally being used in the province of Kosovo. But you already knew all of that but only wish to tell BIG LIES as you so eloquently put it.

Okay, then I challenge Pristina to submit an application to the UN right now and see whether Beijing (along with Moscow) cast its veto or not!

The Chinese will not support Kosovo because they insist on the sanctity of state borders. This in turn has implications for Taiwan and Tibet because Beijing view these regions as being within her own sacred borders.

Of course no one (including China) will object to Kosovo's independence and UN entry, PROVIDED BELGRADE AGREES -- I don't see this happening anytime soon do you?

As for Kosovo joining Albania, do you think the West will shoot themselves in the foot and allow you to do that? Ahtisaari will be shocked to the back teeth.

"BIG LIE! It is Russia which hasn't accepted the unilaterally declared independence. The reason? Because Russia would like to see Serbia to accept first and it is not because Russia itself doesn't want. It is worse than you think. China also will not accept Kosovo as a state because of Taiwan and Tibet. Be prepared to be left out the UN indefinitely!

I bet that it was expected to be a lot easier than this. For those international representatives, career diplomats and politicians, who feel no bond or tie to their history or culture and do not understand it in others, there must be sheer amazement at the strength of feeling.

Kate- your comments are right on the money. These international politicians did not realize that trying to separate the "spiritual heart" of Serbia- Kosovo and Metohija, even though it's in a weakened state, would be so difficult. Most younger Western countries and their people cannot begin to understand how deeply Kosovo is tied to the Serbs- which goes even beyond "patriotism or nationalism". That's why they will ultimately fail.

kate, Serbia can withdraw support of EULEX but at this point it will take the UNSC to have any weight in getting them out. Everyone knows that won't happen.
Also your statement needs to change to conform to the actual wording of 1244.
troops/police should read personnel.

""Still, we are not running away from talking to Albanians, but only within Resolution 1244 and from the point of view of status neutrality," Bogdanović told daily Večernje Novosti in an interview."

This is a very fair point and I think that Serbia is right to stick to this. If they accept any discussions where Kosovo takes part as an independent state it sets a precedent which the pro-independence nations will leap on.

Talks should be within the legal framework of UNSCR 1244 and reflecting the six points agreed by the security council on November 26th 2008.

If the conditions agreed between the UN and Serbia are ignored, then Serbia can withdraw her acceptance of EULEX and cooperation with therefore unmandated troops on her territory.

What about all of those conditions set in 1244? A return of a certain amount of troops/ police to protect monuments etc? This has been overlooked because a level of cooperation suited all involved. But if the cooperation fails and the EU/ UN renege on agreements, then things could get even more complicated.

I bet that it was expected to be a lot easier than this. For those international representatives, career diplomats and politicians, who feel no bond or tie to their history or culture and do not understand it in others, there must be sheer amazement at the strength of feeling.

Strange how in some countries people are 'patriotic' while in other countries people who are far less fervent are branded 'nationalists'.
