Socialist Party of Serbia (SPS) senior official Dušan Bajatović has dismissed claims that the proposed Vojvodina Statute will divide Serbia.

SupportSerbia that is not the reason for it's autonomy. The communist era was the first time Vojvodina ever had autonomy.
Anyways, here's an article from a few years ago from Vreme regarding this issue. It deals with the fact that their is no basis for autonomy based on claims made by autonomists.

This coming from the bastardized party of the former League of Communists of Yugoslavia who did just that, divide Serbia. Its a shame this party was not disbanded along with Milosevic.

It currently has autonomy because of its origins. It was part of the old Austro-Hungarian Empire. But that was almost 100 years ago. Time for change.
I don't know why the politicians in charge of Serbia are so afraid to make bold decisions. It seems they are afraid to offend people. Sometimes I think that the SNS is the only party that is serious about preserving the territorial integrity of Serbia.

I was shocked to learn that now Serbs make 65% of Vojvodina. Why the need for autonomy?

It currently has autonomy because of its origins. It was part of the old Austro-Hungarian Empire. But that was almost 100 years ago. Time for change.
