Bgannon, you're missing what I am saying here. Serbia was more than willing to discuss status before the UDI and I didn't have a problem with this, but Albanians don't want to discuss status.
They say that they can only discuss friendly relations with the Serbs and that's it.

Now you tell me what have the government got to discuss here?
Certainly not how they are going to cooperate as countries. Since they cannot discuss status which we have already established why meet? If they meet and talk like two leaders then that would be recognizing Kosovo.

Which country which has NOT recognized Kosovo has agreed to meet with Ceku and Thaci?
How can Serbia have any talks on that level when they don't recognize Kosovo?

Without discussing status, there is nothing to discuss.

Peggy could you explain to me how can a compromise between Serbs and Albanians be worked out if direct talks are ruled out?

Was this not the ridiculous position of the internationals which brought us to the current situation. Was this not the official position of Slobodan Milosevic, which at the very least, did not help the situation of Kosovo Serbs or Albanians.

No, I have a problem with this fixed 'position' politics. You can be as flexible or creative as you want to achieve your goals, although there will always be people who suspect or don't believe it even if you say before negotiations take place that you do not recognise Kosovo. In the case of Albanian leaders they will state that they do not recognise Tadic as their President and thats it.

In fact I suspect this is just an excuse not to reach a compromise. It is far braver and wiser to take the risk to find a final solution.

Look at the history. Solutions come through negotiation and meeting those you don't recognise. Nothing comes of boycotting, harsh language and obstinacy.

Its sad to see that so many people disagree with me that this government is incompetant!

Bgannon, your heart is in the right place and I see that you want what is best for Serbia, but we all have different opinion on just what that is.

The problem with having talks with Ceku and Thaci while they are in the capacity of President and PM of "Kosova" is that by Tadic doing that he is recognizing them as just that.

He cannot speak to thm while they are functioning in that capacity.
The only people he can speak to is the UN who can act on behalf of Kosovo.

Under no circumstances can he accept them as President and PM.

Maybe I am wrong, but no country which has not recognized Kosovo would have meetings with them on that level, so Serbia especially cannot.

This is unacceptable and if Tadic does speak to them while they are acting in their present capacity then he is virtually proclaiming recognition of those men as rulers of Kosovo.

The Serbian government can only negotiate with the UN or EU, never with criminals.

Once the separatists accept that Kosovo is Serbian then and only then should Tadic speak to them about internal issues. He cannot and is not mandated to speak to them while they are still acting in the capacity of President and PM.

This is unacceptable and if Tadic does speak to them while they are acting in their present capacity then he is virtually proclaiming recognition of those men as rulers of Kosovo.

In this time of government incompetance its nice to be reminded what a disasterous policy DSS pursues on Kosovo.

How is a solution to the problem ever going to be found if direct talks are ruled out?

That was the position of the US and the UK and most Kosovo Albanians. I opposed that and I oppose this ridiculous statement from DSS the ever shrinking party.
