Iam talking about unregulated capitalism where there no checks and transparency.
Iam talking about the Mantoffs and the Fulds of corporate US.
Fuld collected half a billion dollars from Lehman Brothers while knowing that the company was effectively bust.He recently sold his $ 15 million mansion to his wife for $100 in order to avoid paying his creditors.
Iam talking about Mantoff that was allowed to defraud his investors of more than $50 billion.Where were the regulatory authorities?
I agree with you that power breeds corruption.

Leonidas, everything you say is true, however do you really believe that it is this corruption is a product of capitalism? Look at the former communist countries of the balkans where corruption has run amuck for years. Where you had to be related to someone or pay someone under the table for the basics in life, such as a job, better place to live, healthcare.
It is power that breeds corruption, irregardless of governmental society.
Back to the article, I hope everyone does note that any mention of Blagojevich's heritage has been in passing and actually presented in a positive way. In America when it is said that a person is a child of immigrant parents of (whatever)heritage, it goes to the core of American culture because we are all descendants of immigrants.
The point I am trying to make is his situation is not viewed as a negative reflection on his heritage nor the country of Serbia.

If Blagojevich is jailed for trying to sell Obama's vacant seanate seat he will be the the 4th of Illinois last 8 governors going to prison.
Yet it's Louisiana that holds the record for the highest number of federal convictions per capita in US.
When E Edwards-former governor and now a prison inmate convicted for fraud-run for office in 1983 he said of the incumbent.
"If we don't get Dave Treen out of office there won't be anything left to steal".
In 2006,the FBI arrested Lousiana Congress member W.Jefferson for hiding $ 90000 illicit cash under his freezer.
I think the problem is not confined to the state legislature or te US congress and to politicians. There is a large number of small county officials who are corrupt and crooked.
However, corruption is not the prerogative of the US.It is a symptom of unregulated liberal capitalism where everything goes.
