it certainly doesn't require the skills of Einstein to count that just under 80 countries support Serbia's efforts, but it would seem that Webster is needed to assist doodah in understanding that nearly 80 countries abstained, which is altogether different that are against Serbia's initiative. See, 6 countries rejected Serbia's initiative, thus supporting Kosovo's claims to independance. Thus it begs the question; why of the nearly 60 countries to recognized only one-tenth have shown their support at legal level. Could they be second guessing themselves?Regardless of who you support, or what the outcomes will be, it is utterly pointless to try and redefine the words you're reading. Abstention is a nothing vote, it counts only to get the proper total, but it certainly does not have any opinion behind it.
It would seem that the odds are infact 77-6 and not 77-112, right doodah... Not so bad odds afterall really.

Seems to me that #8 shows desperation.

That echoes foremost in such wording "severely punished". The old saying "They forgot nothing, they learned nothing" comes again into mind

Then why does Kosovo only have 50 something recognitions out of 112?

In any case, until any major country like China, Russia and Spain (the countries that Kosovo really needs a recognition from, rather than Polynesia and Micronesia), it won't matter how many little island states recognize them.

The fact that the first 7 posts are either written by pro-Albanians or Albanian nationalists only shows how desperate they have become.
EU,NATO blocked by Spain,Romania etc.
UN blocked forever by Russia,China etc.
1244 still in place and therefore Kosovo still part of Serbia.

And make no illusions my dear Albanian friends,it is only a matter of time when whole of Kosovo will be integrated de facto into Serbia and Albanian extremists will be punished severely.

I can see there is a panic in Jeremic head. Come down Jeremic! Whatever you do there is no way Kosova will go back to Serbia. Be realistic! I know you are trying hard to twist other countries arms by mentioning "the threat" of separtism, international law and other propaganda. But let me say you something if there is another Greek coup in Cyprus and an idiot dictator wants to it make whole Greek then we will have a Turkish Cyprus in north...I hope you get the point. When we talk about Kosova we can not pretend that nothing has happened there in the last century, just over night Albanians in Kosova woke up and wanted to become independent from Serbia. Is deeper than that Jeremic much deeper that that. So stop misleading Serbian people and international community!

It does not take Einstein to come to the conclusion that by Serbian estimates there are a maximum of 80 countries that support the Serbian position with 112 that do not. Not very good odds.

Jeremic is confident that international law supports his position. The problem is that the ICJ may not vote according to the law and that even if they do, it might not change what is happening on the ground.

Illegal things have happened to Serbia before, despite international law...illegal bombing, illegal bombs being used for the illegal bombing... etc.

I actually feel sorry for Jeremic. He's trying his hardest, even though he knows he will most likely not succeed.

Too bad those other more important politicians in Belgrade who only fight with each other don't feel the same.

I see that reality is beginning to set in. With his request for these countries to express their position on the matter says it all.
1. He is sending it to 80 countries so he knows that less than half the countries support the Serbian stance.
2. He is not confident that international law supports his position, and is hoping that a big response from these countries will sway the decision of the court.

Of the total 192 General Assembly members, 77 voted for, six against, while 74 abstained

Out of 77 that voted for were countries that have recognized Kosovo, which means they are not afraid of ICJ decission.

“As a result, separatist groups throughout the world will receive a fresh example of how to realize their ambitions. The international system will become unstable, uncertain and unpredictable,” he points out.

Thank God there is someone left to defend the international system.
It is a shame that most of Serbia’s previous leaders are in Hague, on the way to or already convicted for crimes against humanity.
What a joke!
