“KSF means remilitarization of Kosovo”

Moscow considers NATO’s decision to form the Kosovo Security Forces (KSF) illegal and against international law, says Russian Ambassador Aleksandr Konuzin.

“Russia isn’t prepared to support these moves by NATO, since they are unacceptable to Serbia,” said Konuzin.

Does anyone in Kosova cares whether these moves are acceptable for Serbia or not?.

Mr.Ambassador Serbia is another country for Kosova and for the rest of Western World, sorry to inform you but you're way behind on your schedule/calendar.

The so-called Russia you must leave Kosovars alone. Thanks God Kosova is in Europe and not bordering Russia.

It is time for Serbia to accept the Russian missle shield and whatever else Russia has to offer on Serbian soil.
(Another Canadian Serb, 27 January 2009 12:17)

Are you kidding me, russia has nothing to offer, sorry.
all this kosovo thing is a done deal,,,,just let it go.

Actually Doodah, I think stationing troops at patrimonial sites outside of the North would be too provocative at this time, I wouldn’t go that far. I support peaceful partition, not all out war.

However, in the North, yeah, I think a few hundred troops to guard the border crossings and man customs and guard cultural sites would be an appropriate response to the formation of KSF. I think that’s entirely reasonable and should be done peacefully. It is clearly our right, unlike the KSF, which is in dispute.

The reality is, the Albanians haven’t treated the Serbs any better than the Serbs treated the Albanians. Otherwise “Standards Before Status” would not have been abandoned. The reality is, the ratio of Serb victims to Albanian victims was 1 to 10, mirroring the population exactly. Our people make up a larger per capita percentage of the missing and ethnically cleansed.

So no, I don’t see any valid argument why you should control the North or have any kind of military presence there. After 2004, we need to protect our people, the international community and the Kosovar government certainly aren’t.

“Russia isn’t prepared to support these moves by NATO, since they are unacceptable to Serbia,” said Konuzin.
That tells it all what is all about when we talk about SC decisions. There is no point of an entering into useless converstation with Serbia. Serbia either recognises Kosova as an independent country or good luck in selfisolation. Forget about EU prospect!

Mathew, need to do some serious reading of 1244. "After withdrawal, an agreed number of Yugoslav and Serbian personnel will be permitted to return to perform the following functions:
o Liaison with the international civil mission and the international security presence;
o Marking/clearing minefields;
o Maintaining a presence at Serb patrimonial sites;
o Maintaining a presence at key border crossings."

o "Return of personnel for the four functions specified above will be under the supervision of the international security presence and will be limited to a small agreed number (hundreds, not thousands"

Hruz is absolutely right when he says "You should concentrate on your country"

The US should concentrate on itself, never should have gotten involved with the KLA terrorists, never should have bombed Serbia, and never should have supported Kosovo independence...

Have a nice day.

I'd say that this is a demilitarization and not a militarization, before the formation of the Ksf there were more troops in the Kpc and those were much more heavy armed. You(Serbs) should be happy and thanks NATO for this gift. Russian amb. declaration is just a joke.

Matthew

Personally, I think its time for Serbia to move some troops and customs officials into the North of Kosovo. After all that is the agreement we reached with NATO originally. We need to start exercising our agreed upon rights.

There is no legal status as a nation and it therefore cannot be allowed to have its own army. The UN will come back and reaffirm that this is a lightly armed security force under the UN umbrella."

What UN? UN is ruled by UNSC members and US, France and UK are in and strongly support Kosova. They knew it all before the recognized and pushed Kosova to declare independence so it's no surprise to them.

Another Canadian Serb, I don't remember Russia ever wanting a missle shield in Serbia, should they want one there are more strategic places to build one.
I really think that the one proposed by the US may have a chance to be scrapped now, too early to say. But if it is I am sure it will come at some face saving price. Now what could Russia offer the US as a negotiation tool so both parties don't lose anything and both look like winners, support for Kosovo Independence???

Hruz

This guy from the "so called" Russia is very self confident, but childish at the same time. If Serbs say Kosovo is re-militarised, we support them.

If they say South Zimbabwe is part of Serbia, we support them.

You should concentrate on your country, which is far from being democratic, and try to resolve disputes with your neighbours, so that nex time your allied Serbia will not have to go and beg from Hungary and Germany for gas.

US, UK and France are supporting ($$ and training) the Kosova force which like the Russian said it's the hallmark of a country.

kate

Dardania - you are really overstating the importance of the Kosovo project in the current international climate. There are far greater reasons for the UN to preserve international laws and uphold its resolutions than just to keep the Kosovo Albanians happy.

The world has moved on and there is no way that an army will be developed on Serbia's territory after it's already been illegally ripped away by a band of dwindling international supporters.

There is no legal status as a nation and it therefore cannot be allowed to have its own army. The UN will come back and reaffirm that this is a lightly armed security force under the UN umbrella.

ben

When I hear 2,500 lightly armed troops to be called remilitarization I think that a zero should be added with heavy weapons and armoured vehicles. This just for the sake to bring thinks in contest and make happy and RELIABLE people that speak about remilitarization. Maybe then they will be happier. I would certainly be!

These people are not happy even when peanuts are given to Kosovars and still speak about ‘one side gets all and the other nothing’ (read: give me the north at least).

Well said, the last thing the balkans needs is a NATO/EU trained illegal army- what are they thinking of? besides being illegal you would have thought that they would have learnt lessons from Afghanistan etc!!!

Peggy

Yes, we all know it's illegal and unacceptable, but what we want to know is what you are going to do about it.

Tadic has sent a letter of protest. Nothing happened as yet. When this "army" doesn't go away, what is going to be your next move?

Delaring independence was illegal as well but they did it and nobody is rectifying that. Sure, we hear a lot of angry words flying around but Albanians are not afraid of angry words. Let's do something differently from now on.

pss

The UNSC will discuss it and Russia will judge it negatively. Considering there are 3 veto wielding NATO members can anyone guess what will happen next?

“KSF means remilitarization of Kosovo”. I do agree with you on this, at least, Mr. Ambasador.

However, one needs to remember one thing, that for the peace and prosperity in the region to prevail militarization dimention is significant.

Either complete de-militarization of the entire region or complete complete militarization of the entire region. Unfortunately or fortunately, this is the ONLY formula for peace.

Balance of Power is name of the game,...you like or not...and no more 1998/9 scenes that fomented NATO intervention. This time Kosovo Army will do the job, if need arises.
