Was anyone else surprised to see Canak lining up with the Radicals in parliament on this issue? Wonder what prompted that, haha.

Empty threat. Many countries in the west, where there is less of a profit margin then in Serbia, have made excises taxes twice that of Serbia's and none of these companies making this threat closed plants as they claimed.

ALl this excise will do is decrease their earnings by a factor of a few percent. They will still earn disgusting profits in the end.

Plus, so what if they close down. Given the profitability of Tobacco in Serbia some local businessman will buy the assets vif the excise law hurts these firms.

I hope they do leave. Tobacco is the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the world. Why would you want these in Serbia. Send them away and perhaps you will send a message to all Serbs that smoking is a disgusting self-destructive habit.
