"Your point is wrong. Kosova has always been poor and with just 2 million people, EU and US will invest a bit here and there. Some will leave to work in Eu countries and support their families, some will find jobs in Kosova and it's 600% better. Kosova is a small country and EU /US will not leave us hanging.

Plus, you can't put a price on your freedom
(1244 e morto, 26 January 2009 10:29)"

I was talking about Kosovo losing out if it was shut out of the UN and EU.

The fact that you admitted that K-citizens had to work abroad (for minimal wages compared with citizens of their host countries) only added weight to my argument.

As for joining the EU for riches, what makes you think the EU now is flushed with money?

Jeremic should gather all of those european ministers who say they want Serbia in the eu and the dutch ministers in one room and ask this group "What's your problem? In or out? We got gas storage facilities and pipelines to build and you are acting like a bunch of little girls. The difference between thumbs down or up to us is building Russian military bases in Serbia or not. Quit wasting our time."

Lowe,

I understand your point but they have no choice. We like it or dislike it Serbs are Albanians neighbours and otherway around. We all are in Europe and it is natural that the rest of Balkan countries to join EU earlier or later. The problem we are having is that Serbia wants to use its EU prospect to block Kosova's entry. With that kind of Balkan mentality we can not see any prosperity. I don't believe that EU is that stupid not to see that. That is why I say way forward recognising your neigbourgh first before pretending EU membership.

What this schoolboy described in this article is an anti-EU approach.

I hope, until Jeremic is not whisked out of sight, EU will not even bother to consider Serbia.

Pick someone serious, show your willingness to become civilised and perhaps later you will be considered for EU memberships. These are the rules of the game.

Lowe: you are overestimating Serbia's willingness to recognize Pristina in return for EU membership…Belgrade far prefers to keep Kosovo out of both the UN and EU as an independent state.
This is the sad state of affaire. “Not hat I want my life to be fine, no I much prefer your life to be miserable”.

I think you are overestimating Serbia's willingness to recognize Pristina in return for EU membership. I think, given a choice, Belgrade far prefers to keep Kosovo out of both the UN and EU as an independent state. That will, as you appeared to admit, stifle Kosovo's development.

On a more general note, did it ever occur to anyone, especially Belgrade and the EU, that Mladic might not even be inside Serbia?????

I always kind of suspect that many EU countries as well as anti-membership Serbians are secretly pleased to let the Dutch use Mladic as an obstacle.

In any case, the EU today is a quarrelsome club of 27 members who seem to disagree about almost everything. Does it make any sense that they will want to make life even more difficult for themselves by expanding to 34 or 35?????

What Jeremic really wants to have a weak Kosova, frustrate the Albanian population in Kosova, create a conflict between Albanians and the international presence in Kosova, destibilise norther Kosova and a very good excuse to devide North from the rest of Kosova. All that in the name of Resolution 1244 which still recognises Yugoslavia and in addition to it the Serbian six point plan. Serbia have no choice to to speak to the Kosovar institutions as equal partners otherwise is hitting its head against the wall. We all accept that Serbia has no authority whatsoever over Kosova. That exclusion was sealed in 1999.
