As residents reported that the display of the Serbian flag "irritated" them, all flags were on Friday removed from downtown Zadar, Croatia.

To all the posters that don't live or do not have a little insight to the history of the Balkans. Serbs lost more than Croatia has ever in any Croatian/Serbian war. Anyone that does not see that is truley BLIND.

Serbs have almost lost everything in Croatia. However almost is not all and like a Phoenix we will be back one day to claim what is ours.

Lenard you are constantly rambling on about the EU and yet when it comes down to it you are not accepting Croatian responsibility for wrongs rather pointing the finger at Serbia, the way you point it at the EU.

I wonder how many Croats (Bosnians or Serbs) just use any country or entity they can blame to cover some of their own shortcomings.

Its always somebody elses fault! How about addressing the issue? Do you think Serbs should not have the right to fly flags in Croata, even if it is against the constitution?
If so do you think (or at least understand) that it was wrong to wave Croatian flags in the eyes of Serbs throughout the 90's bearing in mind the last time the sahovnica was flown in Croatia?

Mr_baaau: No I don't agree with removing the flags the mayor had removed the Serbian flag and all the rest of the nations flags. He is a typical narrow minded politicization who caters to his small hard line constituency for votes these politicians will be the death of as all be they Croatian or Serbian or what ever. The police did arrest 2 suspects who pelted the parked empty car with Serbian plates. I'm sure they would arrest the person who phoned the fake bomb threat too. If they know who it is and they should arrest the law breakers no matter of what nationality. Let the one with no sin throw the first stone ,no takers.

We know what happend in former Jugoslavia and hopefully it will never happen again. However, you are suggesting that it is ok to attack athletes who had noting to do with the war. Milosevic is dead and plenty of serbs are in the Hague for warcrimes commited in the war. What more do you want? Serbs did commit crimes against croats but so did the croats. Besides, I thought the war was over? I thought we were supposed to move on? We don't have to love each other but we are neighbours and there is nothing we can do to change this. We could and should make the best of it.
Croats are just like the albanians. Viewing all serbs, regardless of age, as targets. By refering to the war they are just using this as an excuses for attacking serbs. It's always been like this and nothing will chang that.

Lot of Serbs are blinded they think that they live in a mecca of tolerance and Serbia didn't do anything wrong. The world and their next door neighbors don't think so. Their next door neighbors had first hand experience of Serb and of Serbia's tolerance of horrors not seen in Europe since WW2.

The only answer to this argument of Croats that Serb symbols could upset victims etc is to ask whether the Croatian flag - Sahovnica should have been banned from flying in the 1990's.

Yes, its that simple, the Croats knew very well what the Croatian sahovnica represented to Serbs living in Croatia - the genocide against them from WW2. Those people were genuinely scared and symbols like these gave a very real reason for Serbs in Croatia to expect that they were in serious danger in an independent Croatia.

Anyway, either one supports the flying of flags without regard to how others might feel or one supports locking flags up in order not to offend some people...

I write this just having watched Serbia play world champions Germany. The Serbian team managed to score a goal in the last seconds of the game and gained a draw - an amazing result!

I am a little worried about incidents in Serbia meets Croatia in the final stages of the tournament though... Its a pity this stage is not being played further north west in Isrija, where they are known for tolerance.

Nothing new from our Croatian friends. Something to be expected from these fine Europeanized people and their examples of how to be a trueEuropean country. Serbia please take note and maybe you to can get in the EU with these fine examples of how to be a European country. Of course Germany will do what they can for thier most valued partners of WW2.

This is no surprise to me, or to anyone else who knows what Croats are really like. They were, after all, rewarded by Tito for losing WWII and for their brutal genocide against Serbs, Jews and Gypsies. They have never even apologized and are proud of it. The US sponsored genocide in 1995 against Serbs, well that one they celebrate as a national holiday.
They have this in common with the albanians, that 'tolerance' is not part of their vocabulary. However, I am sure this will be swept under the rug and Germany will bully the rest of the EU into letting their old friends into that immoral club.

They forget the wrong doing they have done towards other people but highlight the crimes commited against them. Typical for croats to engage in this type of behaviour. All kinds of people and minorities live in peace in Serbia but in Croatia and Kosovo serbs are still targeted for being serbs. What have these athletes done wrong? However, I hope we can return the favour when they come to us.

SwissCroation,
what do you have to say for yourself now?

There are thousands of Croats living in Serbia today and those Serbian Croats do not endure this type of treatment.
I hope this story makes it into the international scene, so that the world can see how intolerant and disrespectful Croatia really is.
