Italy should Not allow the accession of Croatia into the EU now or in the near future. Croatia unlike Slovenia (Who has re-ratified the treaty of Osimo) has refused to recognise the autonomy of it's Italian population who have been mistreated by them since 1945. The cities of Italian Istria & Dalmazia like Montana, Pola, Zara, Fiume & Spalato are purely Roman and therefore nominally Italian. Large Parts of the Ethnic Italian population were subject to savage Croatian Ethnic cleansing since 1945(similar to that which ocurred to Croatian Serbs from 1992 to 1996. Why was Mario Andretti & his family driven out of Istria? Was Marco Polo a Roman or a Croat? He was a Roman! Italy Stand up to Croatian Thuggery!

I think Serbia entering in the EU will help its economy and development. However, as Mircea will agree, the EU is in for rough sailing during the financial crisis, and money being allocated to developing countries like mine (serbia) willbe hard pressed to receive substantial aid from the developed countries. This economic recession is much differant than the one in 2000 and. France, Germany, and the UK were able to contribute much more money to Lithuania, Latvia, Slovakia, etc. than they will for bulgaria, romania, and the western balkans. Furthemore, the EU was formed for economic purposes, and I fear that if this reccession continues the EU might not come out alive. A serbia in the EU might not ever happen, and not because we can't qualify, but because it might not exist.

smile, the interim agreement is to allow free trade between Serbia and the EU so if these surrounding Balkan nations join the EU before Serbia they can continue to freely trade with Serbia rather than the EU footing the bill. It is a free give-away by this sell-out government so the EU needs to do all it can to ensure it stays in power.

You see countries like the UK, if they had a chance to vote, would probably choose to leave the EU. They have no interest in being ruled by Brussels. Mircea is just a naive newbie.

mircea we don't want Serbia to join either. We want to remain a free and independent country, not some East or West lap dog being told what to do.

To Albanian:

We have already recognised KosovO! We've recognised it in line with international law and the Serbian constitution i.e. as a region of Serbia! Get with the plot.

"Jeremić reiterated that Serbia's central strategic priority was to join the European Union as soon as possible."

The people of Serbia must understand that the only way for their country to achieve economic prosperity is by joining the EU.

Long live the European Union!
