Šešelj counting on early release?

Speculation that SRS leader Vojislav Šešelj will soon be a free man intensified after he announced today that he would not be putting up a defense in his trial.

And I ask you all, what good would it do if Serbia joined EU??

They all say, economical advancement and better life. Than I ask, how has Germany, France, and the new members Romania and Bulgaria benefited from the EU?

Nothing has changed. The standard of living is still the same. Capitalism still flourishes. And the gap between rich and poor is still at large. So what really has changed = the rich elite just got richer, thats simply it.

The Hague has nothing on Seselj. And it never had! They had nothing on Milosevic- why do you think the trial went on for years if they claimed they had some much proof that Milosevic was guilty?

The reason Seselj does not want to defend himself anymore because he does not want to make the trial longer. He wants it to be over.

It is not the defendants job to defend himself, it is the job of the prosecutor to find the defendant guilty. Something which has not been done.

The only reason why Serbia is in this mess from the start (from early 1900s) is because we Serbs are Orthodox, and we do not follow that corrupt Vatican!!!!!

I can't believe the people of Serbia want to take a giant step backward in time and embrace Seselj. His base of extremist nationalists is large, but they will be self-defeating if they do not look forward and join the EU and the West.

Can anyone sanely argue that the Radicals will provide a better life for the Serbian people?

Of course they have fixed it that Seselj was not in Serbia and that was political.

He just had to go and name witnesses in his book, thus giving the Hague the excuse they need to bring new charges.

Its priceless the how smart the radicals are, truly.

As much as I don't like the man, the ICTY has nothing on him. His trial has made him more popular than ever in Serbia because he, like Milosevic, is sticking it to the Tribunal. Buttons of "Seselj: Srpski Junak" abounded when I was there.

If the ICTY let less savory people walk (like Haradinaj), they can't keep Seselj incarcerated for long - no matter what the West may feel. And he'll return to Serbia with big pomp and circumstance, pick up his mantle of SRS leader, and probably be the biggest obstacle for Tadic & Co.

How can they keep the man in custody for so long? SHAME! I hope the day comes when he returns to his homeland to kick out tadic from office.

The only way that he would be released earlier is if he gets released like Milosevic did... if he dies and then he will be released, otherwise he will remain there all his life for the crimes he did
