Macedonia, Greece lock horns at ICJ

The far right nationalistic goverment of Fyrom went to indict Greece to the ICJ for one purpose only::: To stall the negotiations for the name, as long as it can.

The care about being re-elected again ans again - serving cheap nationalism to the Fyromian people, in order to stay on power in Fyrom as long as they can.

They know just that this move will mean that their undeveloped country will stay out of NATO or the EU, permanently, but they don't care about that.

They don't care about the money that the EU will give them to develop their third world economy and help their people that live under poverty. Or they don't care about the internal security that NATO will offer them, and prevent a civil war with the Albanian element in the future.

All the care about, is stall the negotiations and serve pure nationalism to the Fyromian people - in order to stay in power.

Pure nationalism is a cancer, and right now Fyrom is the most nationalistic state in Balkans, reminding Balkan states of previous decades...

In the absence of a solution to all outstanding issues between kosovo & Serbia and Fyrom & Greece neither Fyrom nor Kosovo will ever be allowed to join the Euro/Atlantic bodies.

If Macedonia loses this case they can forget NATO and EU membership permanently. Macedonia's list of Friends is quickly getting smaller, most importantly they have little regional support. On the surface it may seem like Macedonia and Serbia have made improvements in their relationship but that is just for international political consumption, the truth is Macedonia has lost possibly their most important friend in the Balkans, Serbia.

Bosnia (RS) will have nothing to do with Macedonia, the Slovenians will side with the Greeks because they want the Greek support for their battle with Croatia, and Croatia herself has very little interest in friendship with Macedonia as it does nothing to further their own agenda, and finally Montenegro is too insignificant to matter, thus the Macedonians are left with their glorious Albanian friends and will progress in the international arena about as successfully as their friends the Albanians. Dark days are ahead for this poor confused child called Macedonia.

Kosovo has to become a country before joining the EU. And right now it is nothing more than a Serbian province... If Serbia joins the EU in the future - then certainly Kosova will be joining as a part of the state of Serbia...

@Peter, sorry but FYROM is nothing but an artificial country created in today's borders from the Yugoslav communists and only by them you were declared as a nation within Yugoslavia. The so called "Macedonians" of FYROM have absolutely nothing to do with that name. Serbs, Albanians, Bulgarians, Turkish and others make up that country. But of course to differ yourself from others you point on the "Macedonian Identity" which truly doesn't exist and without the help from outside in 2001, FYROM would have collapsed. But to prevent more wars in the Balkans, EU, US and others are rushing you into NATO and European Union and the Greeks have all the rights to claim on their true Makedonian name. What a shame to name the Airport in Skopje with the one of Alexander, a shame and an insult that is for Alexander and the Greeks!

Slavs, speaking Bulgarian (like your people and yourself) are not even entitled to use that name with whatever it includes in it (History, Culture, Ethnicity).

The desperate efforts of your nationalistic regime to "create" a new idenity for your people - based on the Greek culture and history - in order to survive a possible "absorption" by the Albanians and the Bulgarians is not going to last...

Republic of Macedonia has no other alternative except the road it took.The identity is at risk,language,culture etc.The Macedonian people are willing to suffer from it,but it will retain its ethnicity.Greece has no right to object the name because it does represent the Macedonian people.All people have a right to a name,and Macedonia choose Republic of Macedonia.Greece must recognize the Macedonian minority within Greeces borders.When this is achieved,Greece will have no problem in recognizing the Macedonian identity in Greece and in the Reoublic of Macedonia.Greece must stop lying about history,and admitt they were given part of Macedonia in 1912-13 by the Big Powers and does not belong to them.

You all claim that you know history but fail to acknowledge that in 1913 greece annexed the land they claim as "their Macedonia". You guys need to wake up and study the true history and not just the greek version. Contemporary Macedonia newer was inhabited by ancient Macedonians. This territory was inhabited from ancient times from Paeonians a and another tribes, that doesn't have nothing common with ancient Macedonians. Search in Google with "paeonians Maceodonia", "paeonians Vardar" and see this:
