And again: we intervened in 1999 to stop the killings. NOT TO CREATE A NEW STATE!
(Ron, 18 January 2009 16:32)

Unfortunately Ron you are wrong. The West (America to be more precise) jumped in precisely to create a separate country. Camp Bondsteel had to go ahead and nothing was going to stop America from achieving this.

Your country, my country and a lot of others just jumped in to back America up. It's that simple. One thing they did not count of was Russia and China being so adamant about not letting this happen.
Now they will be bogged down with their resources in there for unforeseen future.

Sidi and Gezim,
Where would you be without Western support?
Isn't it cowardly to let others fight your war?
I am very much against violence.

Without the western “support” a hundred years ago, Albania would have been a relatively prosperous country with the majority of the Albanians and their lands within its borders.
In 1999 the west intervened to save face and make sure that their interests were being served.

Now is the time for Serbia to sit back and enjoy the show. The international community will continue to increase the pressure for the Kosovo Albanians to hold status talks with Serbia. As we all know, the Albanians will refuse and will be viewed differenly by the major powers in the next few years. It's like when you give candy to an infant. The more you give, the more is expected.
(USA, 17 January 2009 22:25)

Status talks? Pressure? From whom? The same Western countries that have recognized Kosova and opened embassies there? Why are training its army and putting pressure on even more countries to recognize? Who have repeatedly told Serbian politicians that there is no going back, and that any status talks are a losing proposition? Don't be naive!

At this moment Kosovo is just a Serbian province.
PLEASE start real negotiations so this issue can be resolved.
Indeed, like Slovakia!
What is wrong with the Slovakian route?
(Ron, 18 January 2009 02:48)

We’re talking about real world in here Ron, not Disneyland.

You got that right Bekim.
It wasn’t Europe’s intention to be involved in Kosovo. But while there, they’re making sure their interests are well served. I’m not talking about EU because I don’t believe in such a thing. I’m talking about individual countries like France for example. Russians I believe are just rubbing their wounded ego with the Kosovo case. As for the Americans, at the moment I think their interests seem to be in tune with those of the Albanians.
2009 is going to be a year when the Kosovo problem will finally be resolved. At the moment, I believe the Albanians do have a strong case while the Serbs I’m afraid are fighting against the wind.

Right now only prestige is stopping Belgrade and Pristina from holding mutual talks that can lead to a solution to the future Kosovo status. It is all prestige and no sense.

Bekim, do you not think that should he say that Kosovo is eager to come to the table for talks with Serbia, without making the distinction it can not involve status, that every Serbian politician tomorrow would be claiming a victory in the press.
It would be touted how Serbia had forced the Albanians back into status negotiations.
So it is 100% necessary that the distinction is made at any mention of talks. If not Jeremic would hold a press conference to announce that Pristina did not rule out discussions on status.

Bekim

I sincerely think Sejdiu is trying to convince himself more than anyone else about status talks. If one repeats something over and over like this it becomes clear that there is pressure to accept precisely that. With leaders like this who needs diplomatic success.
