Peter, have you ever been to Albania? There are no rich parts in Albania. Only poor and poorer parts.

Freedom

Why would a province made up by Serbs want to break off from Serbia? I still don't understand this ridiculous notion. That would be like a richer part of Albania breaking off from the rest. I think you need to move out of your parents' house and learn how the world works a little.

"Vojvodina will eventually be a Free and Independent State just like Kosova !!!"

Yes, Freedom. Why don't you lead the charge? Use a saucepan for a helmet and a wooden spoon for a weapon.

Storm the local parliament building in Novi Sad. Maybe you'll make the humor segment of the local evening news, right after the weather and just before the consumer report section. Maybe B92 will post a photo of you in their Gallery too.

And if you're going to shoot for anything "free" and "independent", you need to look for something other than Kosovo as a template.

Silly Freedom. No cookie for you.

Post of the Month. Brilliant Mike. I could picture it now. Some Albanian storms the Novi Sad parliament waving an Albanian flag shouting freedom for Vojvodina before being shown the door by the Hungarian speaker by route of a good solid firm kick to the rear.

I am always disturbed but not surprised when any mentioning of Vojvodina as separate political strength inside the Serbia is commented as inappropriate. The fact is that wrongful political principles of official Belgrade in past has resulted in devastating lost of territories and destroyed relations with other European countries which now need to be rebuilt. Tensions and panic is caused by those whose politics is based on nothing else then careless frightening of Serbian population that they are about to “loose” Vojvodina too, while the truth is that the Serbian population in Vojvodina voted for these political decisions too. Vojvodina will help building stronger connections with European Union and that will help Serbia as a whole too. There is no reason to think that Vojvodina is about to separate from Serbia. That makes no sense. Vojvodina will eventually become a European region inside the Serbia and Europe. That is all, we go to EU together.

The claim that 40% of the budget comes from Vojvodina is absurd. It comes from Canak, a man who makes absurd claims that can never by varified and are often blatant lies.

This claim is a blantant lie. He claimed that in addition to the 40% coming from Vojvodina that 45% came from Belgrade.

It is absurd to make these claims, since for this to be true Vojvodina would need to have a gdp per capita higher then that of the Baltic tigers, Belgrade would need one above that of Vojvodina and lastly the rest of Serbia would need to be below that of Kosovo.

This is not backed by economic evidence, statistical evidence or by anything based on facts.

"Vojvodina provides some 40% of Serbia's GDP with less than 1/4th of the population, think how much richer they would be"

But this is most all due to Pancevo which is a heavy industrialized town right by Belgrade and Serbian populated.

And any secession will result in abuses of Serbs by the non-Serbs - as has always happened.

I don't think a few minority politicians speak for the majority of the people at all. Serbs have no basic rights in non-Serb led Balkan governments at all.

Dardania,

Stop being an agitator ("one who stirs up public feeling on controversial issues") on this Serbian site. It is not going to work. However, Vojvodina being and staying a part of The Republic of Serbia is not controversial. So please relieve your frustrations at Albanian sites.

You are missing the point totally: They can still be Serbs--whatever that means to them, maybe still follow Serbian Church--and declare independence. Vojvodina provides some 40% of Serbia's GDP with less than 1/4th of the population, think how much richer they would be. Since NATO has taken over Europe, security is assured so they can survive as a small nation (think of Slovenia, Montengro)

While I disagree with him on most issues for obvious reasons, I think Kostunica is the smartest of the bunch, and he is right to worry about it. Just think of how much Serbia would lose if Vojvodina pulls off a Montenegro?

Why is vojvodina engaging in foreign relations with a sovereign state?

Especially one that it's self is not regionalized and under whose future regioanlization it's regions could not do the same.

If Vojvodina engages in any foreign relations it should be on a subnational level, i.e. other euro regions.

Any help to get Serbia further in to the negotiation with Europe is welcome. Vojvodina, as European region with strong political and historical connections with main European countries is a useful tool for that. Relax and enjoy the ride.

Whilst I am a great believer of intergration and cooperation I am also alarmed at an underlying tone of Vojvodia. Wonder how many people knew they had their own parliament let alone what is ment by "ratification of Vojvodia Satute". I fear Vojvodian going down similar path as Kosovo and other provinces! So how will EU react this time round.
