"You are right that there is no real consistency on American foreign policy, but we all live in hope that within our lifetime we’ll experience a much-waited shift in this foreing policy, making possible, just like in Kosova, the birth of a new Palestinian state."

Many of us, jews and non-jews, and i am speaking about in the states, have supported the rights of palestinians and their right for a state. it is true that supporters of Palestinian rights (and Israel-bashers) are SOMEtimes branded as anti-semites. sometimes they are, sometimes they're not. it is a complicated world out there, there are degrees of nuance and we need to be a bit careful, in my opinion, while sticking to our underlying principles.

i support the state of israel AND the rights of palestinians, but i find leaders on both sides to be quite despicable, especially at such times. quite short sided, esp.ly speaking about the israeli govt., it is ludicrous not to mention amoral to think that this broad-based attack against gaza will somehow "solve" the problem(s). it will however lead to an increase in hate and calls for revenge, suicide bombers, on and on.

the US has the responsibility to become actively engaged and pursue a fuller plan for peace. of course it will not be EZ, but whoever said that it would?

as for this comparison btwn "snake" and Hammas, i find it rather ridiculous and more an emotional reaction than some kind of appropriate analogy. a lot of my alb. frnd's don't particularly care for him and i have my opinions, but i hardly think that the impulse for terror in the balkans has been coming from pristina. generally a bit north of that...

at any rate, we need to wage peace right now, NOT more war!! come on!

thank you.

You are right Ataman. There should be no mercy when it comes to terrorism.
I only wish if Serbia had that much support when had to engage itself in anti-terrorism actions in Kosovo.

Hamas is no better or worse than UCK. They are all same. They are all cowards that hide in public facilities, kinder gardens and private houses launching fire from there in order to make humanitarian catastrophe. In their minds “The worse the better” slogan fits very well. Who cares for the death of the civilians if the pictures of sacrificed children and women go round the world which may only suit well for propaganda purposes?

It is time to reckon with terrorists.

The Israeli attack is totally
dispproportionate.By sending missiles to civilian targets is not justifiable. On the other hand Hamas targeting civilian targets in Israel is
not justified either. But the key element here is proportionality which is absent from the Israeli actions.
Israel is multiplying the problems with short-sighted policies which are not aimed at a viable solution but rather a victory over the palestinians.
I just hope that Obama will be less inclined to rub shoulders with the Jewish lobby and exert pressure on both sides to reach an agreement on the peace process.

Sorry Ataman, as much as I like you, I felt obliged to reply to your post above.
I find it funny how defenders of Palestinian basic rights are immediately threatened or branded anti-Semitic. It is always been the prevalence among the supporters of Israel’s state policy to play on this David and Goliath myth. Not that there is any fun or point in engaging into demystification with Serbs and Zionists zealots, but just for the record, current exchange rate as it stands now is more than five hundred dead Palestinians, overwhelmingly civilians, and three dead Israelis. It is very convenient that little detail like that escapes our friends somewhere in middle-earth.
It is yet again interesting to notice the desperate need to revive overused, overcharged and now plainly obvious outdated terrorism rhetoric. Apart from being highly inappropriate and insensitive, attempts do dehumanise the other side have been proven ineffectively and unrealistic even from a viewpoint of American foreign policy.
As far as Thaci goes, you’ll find that he has much more in common with Isreal’s founders than with any Palestinian fraction

I do regret any excessive use of force. Israel is most likely guilty of the use of excessive force. But we have to be clear: there is no "good terrorist" (= Hamas) and "bad terrorist" ( = thaci) or v.v. There is just one thing: "terrorist" and organized crime is closely related to that thing.

No double standards and no anti-semitism disguised as "humanitarian" whining from SRS. Thaci is a criminal - so is Hamas and usama bin-laden.

The demands for human rights on Palestinian or Albanian side are justified and who do violate these should be punished. But neither "snake" nor the Hamas is the proper answer. Precisely, like with Afghanistan. The Soviet invasion of Afghanistan was against the international law - but what the "West" did there afterwards supporting terrorists was even worse.

This is why Israel is 100% right in their struggle against Hamas. But every civilian and non-civilian casualty is a tragedy on all sides.
