so the collapse of the western economic system is a "down"!

you never stop learning ....

btw. from where does an albanian know that economies also have ups? from internet ???

third try: what happened to world-bank membership of the paper-state?

Ron

I think there will be a lot of resistence against Kosovo joining EU (if Kosovo would become an indepdent state).

I can see a lot of anti-'Turkey in EU' groups extending their range to Kosovo and maybe even Albania!

Personally I am in favor of Kosovo joining EU - if it would become an independent state by mutual agreement with Serbia.

But as long as that does not happen Kosovo independence is illegal!

And again: most Europeans really don't want a corrupt, poor, muslim state joining the EU!

Sad, but true!

Clive

pre 15 godina

I really hope that Serbia becomes part of the EU very soon. Most of Western Europe has more in common with Serbia than Kosovo. Posters should also remember that the EU is wringing its hands over bringing Turkey into the fold so the chances of Kosovo entering the EU are nil not just now but for at least 100 years. We can only support so many bar and restaurant owners you know!! And at the risk of sounding racist or anti Islam the reality is that the EU is made up of nations that are Christian in nature regardless of the numbers of citizens who come from other faiths or indeed none.

well, since you don´t seem to be capable of presenting a SERIOUS or/and RELIABLE source... funcake or aoks, or whatever you may call yourself...

"These illusions, that Kosovo under Albanian domination can become a respectable state and a civilized area, where people live freely regardless of their ethnicity, hold no water," Tadić said.

This is pure racists statement. One of many coming from Serbia.

The president of Serbia finds incompatible the civilization with Albanian rule. It is scandal of the greatest proportions. In democratic country a top politician with such statements has signed his political death, in Serbia he is PATRIOT.

On February 17, 2008 KosovA declared independence from the racism.

Ron

pre 15 godina

As Kosovo is a Serbian province, this is correct. Only STATES can join the EU. And Kosovo is not a state as we all know!

I wish everyone a great 2009 from Holland, a real state!

The EU would have to be suicidal if it were to allow the black hole of organized crime known as the state of Kosovo anywhere near it. Drug trafficking, human trafficking, weapons trafficking and so on are the only things the pseudo-state of Kosovo has to offer to the EU. The current state of KosovO is awful, no matter how the Albanians try to twist it. The EU dreams of a multi-ethnic Kosovo where ALL people are treated equally, where the minorities are embraced not persecuted. After having seen the situation over the past few days in Northern Mitrovica I would have to say that this supposed country has a loooong way to go. What I do find somewhat ironic is that KosovO needs the minorities, especially the Serbs, more than they need the Albanians. As long as the persecutions and under the radar ethnic intimidations and cleansings continue KosovO will NEVER see recognition from anyone (EU, UN, NATO, WB, IMF, the Olympic Commitee, etc...) and you can take that to the bank.

In response to post no 9 which states two absurdities one feels compelled to address. Firstly, "Kosova" is nearly a year old- correction Kosovo is centuries old Serbian land albeit populated by multi ethnic society. Secondly, Mr Tadic, recently rescognised as one of the most influential politocians in Europe is an intelligent, elloquent and above all democratic leader and by no strech of the imagination can he be called a moron. Serbia hold your head up high, you are on the road to european intergration and unlike some who still have war criminals as their leaders you have elected a democratic government which can stand shoulder to sholuder with any of its european counterparts.

Addy

pre 15 godina

Well Tadic is crying desperate..but he forgot something Kosovo is Independent, and he cannot change this fact,in the other hand he is showing his destructive policy on Balkans to the European leaders.Until Serbia has politicians like Tadic will not have a future in Europe

Serbian EU Skeptic

pre 15 godina

I am a little bit confused, is the aggressor talking about what human rights are, and how they should be respected. Is it the president of a state which was bombed by NATO, talking about EU values here!? I don’t know what’s wrong with these kind of politicians, when will they stop doing Public Relations, and start “understanding” the reality!
Anyway, good luck Serbia on “EU Integration”!

Funcakes

None of the Serb sites mention 50 recognition because that would mean world majority, and that means the "international law" argument becomes invalid.

For some reason, I don't know why Serbianna didn't mention the number of the countries that have hinted on Kosova recognition...

Dear Jovan, as B92 doesn't (almost) always publish Albanian news sites, I found a Serbian site to publish and confirm what Funcakes said (also, I couldn't find the article in B92 either, I don't if they ever published or not!).

http://www.serbianna.com/blogs/newspost/?p=1217

It's the Serbian FM who said that, so call it a lie :)

Greets from Prishtina!

already european,mister tadic!

pre 15 godina

Kosova is already in europe, like it or not,one third of its population-thanks to serbian politics- is living in europe, and most of them are european citizen, some of them are even in Belgrade as members of the european staff...
So,don, tworry for our future mr Tadic, try to see what to do for serbia,s future in europe!

Jovan

pre 15 godina

my dear funcake... instead of dreaming and consuming these cakes that make you dream... you should have better presented a reliable and serious source for that "news-info" about 50-70 "recognitions"...

Funcakes

pre 15 godina

Jovan, what international right will Serbia have over Kosovo when world majority recognizes Kosovo as a country? Recognitions are very important, and that's why Tadic and Jeremic don't know what to do now that they've got news of at least 50 new recognitions in early 2009.

All they can do is blame it on the pressure and send out desperate messages like "Kosovo has no place in EU".

Serbia can't even get it's SAA process started, much less pretend to speak from EU's mouth.

Jovan

pre 15 godina

Also, more recognitions would meen nothing, because when the time is right the Serbian state will have the international right to govern over Kosovo. What will the Albanians say? It's against the law? You can paint a zibra all white, but it still has strips under the paint. Kosovo is Serbia in every which way you look at it.

Jovan

pre 15 godina

these albanian reactions are clearly showing ...they are just desperate - pretending to be optimists, but their mere reactions proves the opposite.

dear albanian friends! you don´t have to fear Serbia, it´s your country too!

you will learn that...just a question of time and economic development, and your "hero´s" will become your problem...

you will see...

as usual I say: let´s just see what future brings!

He is right: "Kosovo has no future in EU" as long he thinks that Kosovo is part of Serbia. The past has shown what it meant for Kosovo to be an autonomous province of Serbia. No future and no human rights!!

Funcakes

pre 15 godina

First: ups and downs in Western economy are a common event. Sometimes they're big, sometimes they're small, but there's always a way out and the West actually because even more powerful after them.

Second: Serbia has always relied on Russia's support in the international stage, but Russia has always backstabbed Serbia in the most crucial moments. Western carrots are too good to resist.

dardan

mr tadic needs to worry about how he & his cabinet will need to adopt a policy explaining serbias unconditional recognition of the independent republic of kosova including its international reconized borders which include mitrovica within that border, he will need to explain to his people that serbias preconditions before being allowed to join the european union will be 1. reocogntion of the republic of kosova. 2. restructure and downsizing of serbias military both in equipment & personal to european standards.3 handing over of war criminals not to mention ratko mladic. but who knows what tadic may be thinking in the case of mladic he might just be terrorfied of the guy

I would love to say exactly what i think of tadic, but i recently promised to be insistently positive... so, just read my mind! what a sad way to usher in the year.

but still i have to say that despite such voices, i am feeing a little more optimism about people of all ethnicities living together in kosovo/a. eulex should help, on many fronts, and we all need to be supportive. we need to set an example, keep moving forward, and eventually move towards eu, un, etc.

keep the eyes on the prize, don't get lost in the hate voices, the negativity.

Can Serbia keep buying veto priviledges from Russia when Russia's Kosovo diplomacy becomes alienated in the world minority after those 50 or 70 recognitions take place?

Good luck...

Finally Tadic said something worthy of listening to. He should be saying these things on a weekly, if not daily, basis. Serbs in Kosovo are treated worse than animals. When you have no freedom of movement, and are surrounded by barbed wire, in a ghetto, in the 21'st century, this needs to be highlighted to Solana and all those other 'humanitarian bombers' who recognized this fake, immoral, and illegal state. He should be shaming them into doing something about it.
Every time Tadic talks tough it worries me, because I think that an impending arrest of Mladic is coming. Hopefully Mladic is safe in Russia somewhere, since the Ruskies are behaving the way Serbs need to start behaving.
Let's just hope we have a real leader and patriot like Kostunica soon, because when he talks tough he actually means it.

Bob! The term honest can not be used for a large number of people or a nation. There are honest Albanians and honest Serbs etc. etc. The same as ignorant. I can not blame your nation for ignorance, but I can blame you for a false interpretation of the history in case you ever learned history. It is true that in the history there were ethnic cleansing, but you can not blame only the Albanians for that. You can not blame even the whole Serbian nation. The fact is that at least the last war in the Balkans, which is well documented, Serbian regime and its instruments made use of ethnic cleansing and not only in Kosovo. As for Tadic, yes, he is political figure elected democratically, but this does not mean he should rule the Albanians. I believe that even at least 40% of Serbs do not want to be ruled by Tadic.

Pejoni

Bob

pre 15 godina

I wish the Albanians would be a bit more honest - they were excluding Serbs long before Milosevic.

The term 'ethnic cleansing' was originally used to describe the activities of Albanians in Kosovo.

I don't know a lot of Kosovans - but those I know are decent law abiding professional people who are not thugs, murderers, criminals, or nationalists - but they do happen to be of Serbian ethnicity and they were forced out of Kosovo by the Albanians - they are victims of Albanian ethnic cleansing and they too feel deeply hurt and resentful about the way they were treated.

I am glad Milosevic is gone - Kosovo deserves to be ruled by a proper democrat like Tadic.

The west made a bad mistake in ecouraging the idea of an Albanian state outside of Albania. It is a dangerous and stupid solution. It was an unnecessary and prejudiced policy. They were afraid of Albanian violence they wanted to make a point about Milosevic's irresponsible politics. Instead they should have welcomed the possibility of a properly democratic Serbia free of the nasty nationalism that was initiated as much by Croatia, Slovenia, Bosnia, Kosovo Albanians (and a few others - including Germany who seem to have been a major player in encouraging the breakup of Yugoslavia).

So far, it amounts to "Neither Kosovo, nor Europe".

(Paula Jenkins, 3 January 2009 13:25)

Paula, you seem to have not quite understood the international situation here. Boris Tadic and all of Serbia will keep 'chanting' about Kosovo until such times that the Province is recognised as an independent country by the United Nations. Until then the illegal UDI is subject to an ICJ ruling.
As for his notions towards Europe, he and the Serbian nation know that integration into Europe is a long process and a significant amount of work has been done with just as much still to be done. Your statement that his 'chanting' amounts to nothing is far from the truth. Just ask the Albanian commentors here about the ICJ. An independent Kosovo can't even get into FIFA let alone the EU,UN etc.

Way to go Tadic! You really don't need to do anything as some of Kosovo's Albanians cannot help but self-destruct. Individuals without self-control are your friends as they keep making negative headlines globally. The right tactic is to sit back and respond as Tadic is doing. When world leaders read Tadic's comments, they'll say, "you know, he's right!" Europe is too civilized to allow this type of undisciplined behavior. All they can do is blame it on the pressure and send out desperate messages like "Kosovo has no place in EU".

As the old saying goes, "you can dress em up but you can't take em out."

Tymi

Dragan

pre 15 godina

Cheers!!
