Gazprom will receive a $1.5bn payment from Ukraine for natural gas supplied in late 2008 on January 11, Gazprom spokesman Sergei Kupriyanov said on Friday.

Poor Ukraine. It is finally waking up and seeing the writing on the wall. The US which has tried all ways and means to drive a wedge between it and Russia is not giving a penny of aid to help Kiev. All the sweet dreams of Nato membership and pro-US richess have become a nightmare. The Ukrainians are left to fend for themselves. The US is too mired in its own debts and domestic troubles back home to care.
