Marko,

There is some progress - the Serbian taxation is among the lowest in the region, but AFAIK, Romania is still doing a better job. There are many things to be done to make less headache for small business and here we do suffer quite a bit.

As for stopping monopolies: some bad news for Kosovo. Someone told me, our "friend" miskovic did negotiate to open his grocery stores in KosMet as well. Looks like gangsters have good understanding with each other. The last person Kosovo needs is miskovic... :( And didn't he earn his money during the civil war?

Liquidity is the amount of cash available for investment, Serbia had huge reserves as recently as earlier this year. The Government has blown the reserves playing games with the dinar and now after much of the countries wealth has been sold off, this government that only exists to employee DS party faithful will have to squeeze the Serbian tax payer even more.

This will result in less services, greater poverty and civil strife. This is what happens when you have a government that does not like to leave its ivory towers in Belgrade and Dedinje to see what it is like for the small town folk and farmers.

The other day David Branson, the self made billionaire spoke about how entrepreneurs and small business can play a decisive role in the recovery of the western economies; this logic could apply to Serbia as well and it could have been worked on for all the years since the sanctions stoped.

Instead of bowing before the heads of state of western nations and their world bank lackies, The Serbian government should move its diplomacy in the direction of foreign business. The foreign businesses are not taking Kosovo away, the foreign businesses do not care about forcing concessions from Serbia - All they care about is making money securely and these are the people in the west that Serbia should be reaching out to.

To sum up- 1 boost small business thereby fostering economic growth and stopping monopolies 2 adjust diplomacy away from political stumbling blocks (like EU leaders) and towards business leaders who are far less vindictive and far more practical in the solutions they offer.
