Since by the end of the week, Russia will own Serbia lock, stock, and barrel, I wonder what Russian interest in Kosovo will be. I hope everyone notices that when the publicity of talks over the Petrol deal are hot then Russia releases more statements where Serbia owes Russia for their intervention in Kosovo.
Since it will no longer matter in the New Year it will be interesting what the rhetoric will be.
There might even be some type of deal offered for the missle bases in Poland.
The about face in Kosovo might actually be a low cost way of showing that Russia wants to cooperate with the new administration!!

ben,

"Why Georgia or Lithuania or Ukraine can be independent but not Chechnya?? They were all Republics in the former Soviet Union."

Nope, Chechnya was and is a province of Russia. It was not a Soviet republic. Indeed, like Kosovo was not a YU republic.

But, OK, if we follow your rule of thinking:

If Kosovo, why not Northern Kosovo?

And indeed: Western Macedonia. But then also RS in Bosnia? And Croats in Bosnia?

Albano, if you had answered the question seriously, it would have been disastrous for you, since you are quite nothing without foreign help - I hate to say it, because I really do not have anything against Albanians in general.

but your answer is simply an outcry of weakness.

I hate to write twice on same topic but I can’t resist this one;)

the title should say:

Churkin: Russia is creating the inexistent problem Kosova.

How can there be a problem when 95 out of 100 speak with one voice??? Where is the problem??

Do you Mr Churkin apply these standards in your “democracy”- that 5 can block 95??? ;)

Will your “democracy” Mr Churkin fight in UN SC with the same passion for the Chechnya???

Why Georgia or Lithuania or Ukraine can be independent but not Chechnya?? They were all Republics in the former Soviet Union. It must be because of the “international law” ;)) how ignorant I am... ;)

And do you support the Georgian territorial integrity Mr Churkin?? ;))

Why this gentleman has not a god taste to stay silent?

As for Churkin's statements, one thing is clear: Russia is playing an obstructionist role, and if it was not for them, we would not be talking about Kosovo today. But at the same time we can say that this type of a policy will not effect Kosovo's future long term. In other words he is telling us that if it wasn't for Russia, there will be no Resolution 1244 and an approved Ahtisaari plan. Serbia you have a problem!

It all goes back to this. How long will Russia have the cash to spend on its satellites. I think not too long. They are loosing money with the petrol prices now. Even if they go above 70 they will still lose money. Than what will happen is America and all the developed EU countries will move away from gasoline like they are doing now with alternative sources of fuel. Russia's population is shrinking and they have to bring in new blood from neighboring countries. No economy other than oil and gas. Their product already reached peak in 2005 and now declining. In 10 years they will not have enough of anything without foreign investments.Putin will die maybe in 20 years and than No more Russia as we know it now.

Russia cares nothing for the balkans or serbia other than the gas station to europe it has become. And would love nothing more than for continued strife..even if only political..to secure the lackey it has in serbia.

Vitaly Churkin is one of the two Ambassadors of Serbia in the UN and he justifies his name cause he is the most vital one for the time being. Moreover on the photo he even looks like late Slobo ...

If the greater part of the mankind will be able to force the US to switch green lights for the negotiating process over K&M region it will be an equal success for the blackmailed Serbs and the entramped Albanians. Both sides are just captives of the failed policy and it cannot last endlessly. The only way out is to start to talk each other.

The sooner the Albanians will stop crying for the Moon and realize the drastic changes happening in the world the better for all sides involved. No speculations about NIS deal or the late USSR comparisons will make you closer to peace and prosperity. Serbia and Russia cannot afford giving you another hope or another way out. So be sure there will be a happy end in NIS , South Stream and all other projects.

Besides Serbia is the shortest way for you to make friends with Russia and we are the shortest way to engage you to the Islamic World whose support you are totally deprived of. Strange as it is but only kufr states are supporting you while almost all the Muslims support Serbia. So in any case your route to the Islamic World lies through Belgrad.

Some people here forgot who save the world from Germany and Nazis in World wars I and II.
Maybe because they were been on the losing side and hate Russia from that time - saving the whole world - paying with tens of millions deads.
Of course - Russia has own interest as everybody else. American has theirs - but can't build military base on Serbian teritory - that's steal. And avoiding to pay lease or rent on property - try to make more demage by brutal 78 days of targeting civilians and using deplated uranium - even killed so many Albanians in that humanitarian process.

Russia actually steped up again on World political scene after entering Pristina airport - then saved Nato with stricking the deal to end the war. But they signed only because they helped Nato to save the face (almost broken at time of only killing inocent civilians and not getting major demage done to Serbian military) and secure Kosovo stays as part of Serbia by resolution 1244.

Anyway, Serbia can't control whole Kosovo - it's proven. But, some people here don't understand that they don't deserve whole Kosovo in anyway and can't get it without Serbian and Russian approval. So, the best they can get - frozen conflict in limbo - with no anything good in sight for long time. Serbia can wait and get more demage done to Kosovo that it can do to themselves. Both sides are currently stubborn losers.

regardless of their objective, russia has helped preserve serbia's territorial integrity, no doubt about it.

While I believe that Russia is by no means an angel, without them, the EU/USA would definately abuse Serbia, just like it did in the 90's.

As Mr. Churkin so cautiously concluded:

"With this, we succeeded in securing a possibility for Serbs to continue to defend their country's territorial integrity," Churkin concluded.

However, Mr. Churkin knows very well that there is a huge difference in the words "possibility" and "Probability".

And, the "probability" of securing for Serbs to continue to defend their country's territorial integrity is nearly Nil!

"shaped Kosovo issue" hahaha what a puppet seems like he want a credit from serbian ,but one thing KOSOVA IS A INDEPENDENT COUNTRY and no shoe of others can step and proclaim that is mine,so russia you can bluff as much as you can ,but albanians still and always they will stand to anyone who try to approach them

UNE,

And what does Kosovo have? 'Friends' that intervene in Kosovo, but let thousands and thousands of Kurds die?

Is Kosovo any different then Kurdistan?

Kosovo is US pet now. But then can change very soon. Where are you without your 'friends'?

Albano,

I am not a Serb.

What I mean was: why don't we invade Turkey and Iraq and Iran to create a Kurdish state?

You act like you won the war in 1999, but we, the West, did this for you.

And the goal was NOT to create a second Albanian state!

Russia will pay whatever lip service it has to secure it's only satellite into europe.

Russia cares nothing for the balkans or serbia other than the gas station to europe it has become. And would love nothing more than for continued strife..even if only political..to secure the lackey it has in serbia.

'whatever they want' seems to be russia's mantra, and yes, it is quite apparent that the past few decades has been a gold age for serbs thanks to unconditional support russia provides.

UNE

It all goes back to this. How long will Russia have the cash to spend on its satellites. I think not too long. They are loosing money with the petrol prices now. Even if they go above 70 they will still lose money. Than what will happen is America and all the developed EU countries will move away from gasoline like they are doing now with alternative sources of fuel. Russia's population is shrinking and they have to bring in new blood from neighboring countries. No economy other than oil and gas. Their product already reached peak in 2005 and now declining. In 10 years they will not have enough of anything without foreign investments.Putin will die maybe in 20 years and than No more Russia as we know it now.

ben,

Its not 95% its more like 20%! So your so called 95% is very very limited in what it has too say.

Serbia has the majority.

Don't even mention SERBenica! . Serbs have been cleansed as well in their history. Don't choose what you want to remeber.

Oh but America cares a lot about kosovo albanians. America doesn't even care about it's own people but they care about Kosovo that has almost nothing to offer. The only thing they do have to offer is a piece of territory where americans can have their military base. Sure, they really love you albanians.

Russia made just some difficulties to distrakt EU and Nato by just behaving like that. It did not help Serbia, in contrary they damaged Serbias chances to integrate with EU and Nato.
Anyway Serbia is paying the bill for Russias policy.
Russia dont and cant care. They russians did not lift a finger in 1999 when Nato bombed Belgrade!
Russia is just missusing Serbia for its own interests!
Kosova is independent no mather what Russia does!
Occupying Abhasia and Northern Ossettia showed the real ruusian intentions and strait after 2 weeks recognizing them. Funny indeed! But so far has just 2 states recognized them!
Only 2 states after 2 months!

ORTHODOX, I never noticed before, but now that you've mentioned it I agree. Churkin is a good looking man.

Oh look, good ol Churkin is babbling again and trying, unsuccessfully, to make it seem as if Russia is influential again.

You wanna help Serbia? Simply send Russian troops into Kosovo and take it back. What's that? You can't do it?If you can't, adjust your satellites and direct your predictable "victorious" rhetoric elsewhere, to people who actually give a damn.

"Russia first categorically condemned that provocation, and then insisted on a UN investigation into the clashes...",

Oh yes, the Russian stand, "provocation".

Sending women and chldren against the UN officers to occupy the court building. Following the retake of the house, to carry and distribute hand grenades by ambulance cars, injure and kill passively defending officers, and then block the ambulance of the Ukranian officer until he bled to death.

Shame on you cowardly mob who were there on 17 March...

Would you guys leave US out of your comments? US is only following its traditional pragmatic and and democratic policies. We should all be happy that there is such a country left.
