I thank you for your invitation. That's very noble of you.
The reason I don't (at this point) support Kosovo independence is because it is not a done deal. The world is divided and there is a serb minority that is treated horribly. And, yes, I know that the serbs didn't treat albanians very well either. But to move forward there can't be revange attacks for all eternity. And I do have colleagues that are albanian and serbian. I know one thing for sure: there are good and bad people everywhere. However, I hate hypocricy. I hate propaganda regardless from where it comes. This time it comes from some albanian commentators and I felt like writing my opinion. I followe the news closely and have read and seen the warcrimes commited by serbs, as well as others at a smaller scale, but this is no justification for collective punishment. Serbs have paid a heavy price for the wars in the balkans but enough is enough. They continue to be punished. Right now the international community is in a position to blackmail serbs to accept pretty much everything just to join the EU or to get other benifits. This is not right. Sweden has been a EU member for more than 15 years and I don't know if it's worth it. Not for a rich country like Sweden. Perhaps for Bulgaria and Romania, but not for us.

And no, I don't think Bulgaria nor Romania are ready for the EU. But, I'm not the one in charge.

Best regards!

Sorry MikeC, I must have mistaken you with another poster here. I'm truly sorry!

But, since you are arguing that Kosova has nothing to offer to join the EU, that argument about Romania is a good one (Bulgaria as well). Tell me the truth: have you ever been to Kosova/Albania and have ever had a chance to meet any Kosova Albanian or Albania Albanian, and if yes, tell me your impressions (good or bad), and if not, please stop predicting things. I have never been to Sweden and I know only the 'white' things about your country. I know that in your country, a good news isn't a news anymore, it takes a criminal and/or a political affair to make the news, and I must say that these things do not happen in your country (though they happen in every country, but in not so regular basis), we all agree on that. I know a lot about Sweden, but you seem to be miss-informed, not to say blinded, about the real situation in Kosova/Albania! I suggest you to come and visit Prishtina (me personally) and see it for yourself! I will pay for your accommodation! And if your comparison is logical, then we shall accuse the 1-year old kiddies for not knowing how to walk, by comparing them with a 50 (or more) year old man (I'm referring to the independence day in my country (February 17, 2008) and in Sweden (June 6, 1809; I might be not accurate on this one, but your statehood is far more older than ours).

I thank your country, though not you personally since you said it yourself you don't support Kosova's cause, to recognize us.

Thing about my offer!

No, my friend! I'm not romanian. Don't know where you got that idea from? Perhaps the usual albanian propagande at work. I'm from Malmoe, SWEDEN. One of the countries that recognized Kosovo, however, under great hesitation and argument among various political groups. Now that you know where I'm from why don't you write something negative about my country. Tell me how worthless and useless we are and how great it is in Kosovo. That's why bot kosovo albanians and albanians from Albania are still comming to Sweden and seeking political asylum. Why! If it's so great in Albania/Kosovo why come here?

Who should join first? The EU integration is not a race! It is a means for reconciliation! The idea of an unitred Europe is an old one but it took two horrible world wars for it to ripen. The first pillar was the French - German reconciliation. After tree wars within one (long) human life both nations decided enough is enough. And embarked on a reconciliation. Do borders matter. Of course they do! Alsas and Loraine are French today and the Germans stopped rasing the question, despite of the German speaking minorities there! When I visited a shop there, the locals were speaking German. As they saw a foreigner, they swiched in French! Yet few hours later I crossed the bridge over the Rhine on foot. Nobody stopped me or asked me for anything. There was no border! The Germans have realised that they had lost Alsas and that trying to get it back would bring them no good! May be deeply in their hearts they preferred it to be German, but for their children's sake thel let the bygones to be bygones. The locals too found it better to live in an open environment, rather than being a contested noman's land!
The Eurointegration was that great magic that prevented the East European nations to get on their throughts! No matter how injust the handing over of Hungarian populated lands to their neighbour was, the Hingarians reconciled with the Slovenians and the Romanians! So today one can walk over much of the Austro-Hubngarian lands without a passport checks!

Mike I remember last time when Albanians were illusional, Kosova become Indipendent Country recognised by 53 countries of the world, hmm it is good to be illusionist isn't it?
(toni)

You just proved my point. 53 countries have recognized Kosovo, and many under threat, out of how many? Almost one year after the decleration 3/4 of the world have not and will not recognize Kosovo. Is Kosovo a UN member? Is Kosovo going to survive without economical and political assistance? Never! Look at how well Albania has done. The economy in that country is build on criminal activity, no industry, no functional institutions, no fucntional criminal justicesystem, no functional transportation system, no human rights, familly feueds, etc etc. Keep in mind that Albania is in a much better position than Kosovo but still isn't able to acheive any progress. Kosovo has only donkeys and mountains. A large population but no means to employ them. Kosovo has an ongoing dispute with the serb minority and the possibility of a division of the territory. Yes, Kosovo sure has a bright future ahead.

MikeC one thing is for sure if Kosova is not ready to enter EU then probably we will push Albania to let us get dual citizenship Albanian and Kosovar and in that way we will be part of EU as well.
(Poud to be Albanian)

For that to happend Kosovo needs to be independent first. It needs to join UN institutions, which they won't as long as there is a Serbia. Kosovo albanians are looking to Albania and kosovo serbs are looking to Belgrade. You said it your self: Kosovo is partitioned.

So, serbs would be part of EU because of Montenegro? I don't know what twisted idea you have of what it means to be in the EU. If Albania is in it doesn't mean Kosovo is. You can't be that foolish to beliave that? Kosovo won't enjoy the benifits and economic assistans. Then again, it's not the first time albanians are being illusional about international politics.

Mircea, Albania needs only one more SAA ratification and then will apply for candidate status. I am sure you are not informed neither, Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha has anounced for the first part of 2009 to apply for candidate status because then it is considered that Albania will be a full NATO member and also the SAA ratification proces will end.

No, I think they should have both been let into the EU at the same time, because both Poland and Croatia are very similar in terms of GDP growth, GDP per capita PPP, composition of the labor market, unemployment as well as trade deficit. Why they didn't get in in 2004, I have absolutely no idea.

Based on what my Croatian friends told me yes it's true that Croatia could be the most developed non EU country right now.
Also when Romania was accepted in EU I think any country can do that with no trouble at all. Serbia is question mark for me because they can't still decide which way to go(it's still West or East in their mind).

I say that Albania has more chances to become EU member state rather than Serbia, for many reasons, and one of them (and far more the most important one) is the coastline. It's not all about what a country has to do to become an EU member, but it's also what EU countries will benefit from that country! So, based on it's beautiful coastline, I say chances between Albania and Serbia becoming EU member states are 80% to 20% (not to mention other things).

Mircea, sad but true :(. Bulgaria as well. The most recent study told us that the average monthly salary in Bulgaria is something like 110 (more or less) EUR and in Romania around 130 (more or less). It says it all, doesn't it?

Albania is not even close to joining the EU. Resently when Europe requested the albanian government to register all cars in Albanian the request was turned down. Any albanian government that accepts any such agreement with Europe will be in big trouble. Most cars in Albanian are stolen from Europe and the albanians don't want to give them back. I think even Moldova is closer to the european union than Albania. Very strange that Albania is not making any progress what so ever. Enver Hoxha died years ago but little or no change has occured.

MikeC one thing is for sure if Kosova is not ready to enter EU then probably we will push Albania to let us get dual citizenship Albanian and Kosovar and in that way we will be part of EU as well.

No, I think they should have both been let into the EU at the same time, because both Poland and Croatia are very similar in terms of GDP growth, GDP per capita PPP, composition of the labor market, unemployment as well as trade deficit. Why they didn't get in in 2004, I have absolutely no idea.

Well MikeC, knowing that Romania, your beloved country...
AO KS

No, my friend! I'm not romanian. Don't know where you got that idea from? Perhaps the usual albanian propagande at work. I'm from Malmoe, SWEDEN. One of the countries that recognized Kosovo, however, under great hesitation and argument among various political groups. Now that you know where I'm from why don't you write something negative about my country. Tell me how worthless and useless we are and how great it is in Kosovo. That's why bot kosovo albanians and albanians from Albania are still comming to Sweden and seeking political asylum. Why! If it's so great in Albania/Kosovo why come here?

AO KS
