Propaganda.

Sarkozy and Kouchner have indicated that they do not support this. The Germans have also.

Not only that but Montenegro's SAA has been ratified by 11 of the 27 members. Hence it shouldn't even apply.

This is nothing more then propaganda coming from a government in the final stretch of it's rule. Elections are to be held in 2009, they are the one remianing government from the 90s still in power in ex-YU.

This is meant to be a cheap attempt to get more government support:
1. The government is deeply unpopular as both pro-union and anti-union oppositions opposed the recvognition of Kosovo, as did 85% of the population accrdoing to state tv.
2. Both the pro-Serb and pro-independence opposition (i.e. the very pro-EU Movement for Changes) have said that the government does not plan to join the EU. Stratfor has also reported this.
- 3. The government is even more unpopular. This weekend they became the first Balkan states to bailout a bank, the bank happenned to be some 49.63% owned by the premier and his brother.

The government is hoping the EU will as usual look the other way, but this time hopefully they won't and the criminal regime of Djukanovic will fall and Djukanovic will be in an Italian jail cell for earning money from cigar smuggling and human trafficking where he belongs.

Serbia should stop wasting time. Otherwise, the people of Serbia might wake up one day and hear that Albania and Kosovo have submitted their applications for EU membership.

Congratulations to Montenegro! All the countries in the Western Balkans should join the EU. Serbia should forget about russia and should concentrate on joining the EU.

Potentially, this might be perceived in the future as a turning point in the modern 21st Century history of the Western Balkans!

But I have been wrong so many times before - underestimating leadership trouble potential in the region.
