Nobody in Greece lives with 0 - 1 dollar. Nobody ever lived with that amount even 150 years ago. Just ask your 2 million albanian countrymen, that have left Albania in order to live and work as economic immigrants in Greece gain money and prosper. You see, Greece is a developed country and not as your third world Albania is.

Amantia

When you consider the GDP/capita, do you greeks consider the gap between poor and rich..?? then why greece has 25% living bellow poverty line.. 25% has 0-1 dollar GDP

To Niko:

The real wealth of a country is counted as GDP PER CAPITA, and not in total of course, as you falsely mention- as it depends on the population also.

So - even according to your sources the GDP per CAPITA for Greece (nominal) is 28th while Spain is 27th worldwide. Slight difference which proves exactly what I am saying about the real economy of Greece, and how this is compared to other (undeveloped) countries of the Balkans and Eastern Europe. Even according to your data one thing is proven: Greece is one of the wealthiest and most developed countries worldwide. If anybody has some real things to criticise, just go for it. But no more false (or propaganda) comparisons with undeveloped third world countries of the Balkans or eastern Europe. Just reality.

Even if you compare the GDP per capita Greece ranks behind Spain with a difference (Spain is 24th in the the world, Greece is 27th).

Even accepting your figures I can't see where is the problem.
Iam sure that many countries in the world will love to be in the same position.

Greece has a higer GDP than Spain and a GDP of similar size with Italy and the highest growth rates in the old EU-15, even during this troubled year of 2008. [link]

Greece has GDP higher than Spain?!?!
According to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_GDP_(nominal) Spain is ranked 8th on the GDP worldwide, Greece is 27th. Spain has approximately 1,5 trillion USD GDP, Greece has 0.3 trillion USD GDP. Even if you compare the GDP per capita Greece ranks behind Spain with a difference (Spain is 24th in the the world, Greece is 27th).

Here is the albanian propagandist against Greece again. The "arvanit". (Do you know that Arvanits are Greeks, while you are not?)

You keep repeating the same old stories in every signle article so I will also repeat the answers I have given you.

It has been hit by the inernational economic crisis - but no more in comparison to other developed countries, the fact that the Greeks chose to behave like that has nothing to do with the situation in comparison to other countries. It has to do about their mentality.

To have Albanian propagandists like the "Arvanit", trying to give false evidence and talk low about Greece just shows envy and nothing else. Do you really know what "under poverty" means in Greek standards "Arvanit"??

It means a monthly salary of 700 euros (about 1000 dollars that is) that ONLY some young people get in Greece. The vast majority of the Greek workers - who are under 40 - get more than 1500 euros per month.

But the Greek "under poverty" means "like a King" in your Albania where your highest salary is 300 euros and the country still is at the stone age!!

The poor little Albania has been the last of the last in every signle factor, the poorest third world country in Europe, the country that still today is the last in every single factor in the whole European continent.

And just to remind you - the country that about 2 million of your countrymen Albanians - work and live permanently as economic immigrants. If you still believe that is so bad, just do us a favour and tell your countrymen to go back to your pathetic last of the last Albania, and stop causing the troubles they cause.

Unfortunately, they don't believe it. Because Greece has given them, money, free health and insurance system, free educational system for their kids, and generally a future for themselves and their families that your Albania could never give them.

Capitalism is driven by greed and not by morals. Why should it be any different in Greece?
Of course thete are allegations of corruption in Greece as there are in many other countries. The difference is that Greece being a small country most of the scandals come to the public domain.
In Germany we had the Siemens
scandal with more then 8 billion Euros paid by the company to various politicians and public servants across the world. How
many of these people ended up being prosecuted?None as far as i know.
In US you had the collapse of Lehman Brothers with $ billions of investors money and people's pensions dissappearing.Did you see anybody brought to Justice?

Iam not going to make comparisons between Greece and Albania or Fyrom because them countries still live in the middle ages.

We don't need an Albanian to give us an advice how to fix our problems. We've managed in the past and we'll overcome again.

Unlike the Albanians that half of its population are muslim Turks Greece hasn't got any problems with the composition of its population.

However, what is becoming clear from the postings of the desperate Albanians is the hate you declare against Greece and its people. This will be food for thought for all Greeks and feelings will be mutual.

(Jack, 14 December 2008 18:08)
It's a Balkanian thing...Greeks did the same in 1997 when Albania was in a state of anarchy. I remember then Greeks on different forums were calling for the dissolution of Albania as a state.
Somehow, if our neighbourgh's house is on fire, it makes us feel better that we aren't as miserable as they are.
Sad, but true.Until we realise that our own well being and prosperity is connected to that our of neighbours, we are destined as a region to be the black hole of Europe.

New York Times has a very interesting story about the problems facing EU's 'weakest link':
"That reality — economic stagnation, widespread corruption, a troubled education system, rising poverty, precarious security — was thrust to the fore this week as thousands of Greeks spilled onto the streets to protest against the government. "
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/12/13/world/europe/13greece.html

Despite being treated as a 'spoiled child' by Europe for 2 centuries Greece still has 25% of people living below poverty line, after 25 years in EU!!! I expect Greeks to coem here and tell us how much better they are than Albania (that suffered North Korea style Stalinism for 50 years) but they need to look deep and realize that something is drastically wrong in their country. Fix your problems 'Greeks' instead of causing problems in Albania or FYROM. Maybe telling the truth about the nationalities that make Greece today would be a start, this way people don't feel left out if they know they are Albanians, , Vlach, Slavic or Turkish by blood.
