Ataman,

Here you are mistaken while the Russian is 100% right. Every Geogian will tell you that Stalin was Ossetian. He could speak only 3 languages : Russian with srtong Georgian accent + very good Georgian + rather good Ossetian. It's quite normal when Ossetians living is Georgia can speack good Georgian while quite rare Georgian can speak Ossetian or any other national minority language.

I can speak quite good Georgian and Ossetian and so I am very amused with your fantasies about STEEL , STALIN , DZHUGASHVILI ect. Thank you it was funny enough. Now listen how the truth looks like :

All people who has ever had a DZHUGASVILI second name were Ossetians. In South Ossetia this family is called DJUGATA and in the Noth Ossetia they are called DZUGATA but they all are relatives.

I have also to dissapoint you that Stalin is the most respected historical person in Russia though officially Peter the Great is number one. So i's us to judge how to call our streets.

All because only Stalin’s mother was a Georgian that means very little in Caucasus while his father was of Ossetian origin.

It is disputed and probably unlikely. What is interesting, the family name derives from archaic Georgian word which means "steel". Hence, the name "stalin" - essentially a translation from Georgian "dzhugashvili". But this essentially does not changes the fact: the "Проспект Сталина" had an ugly name and now not much changed with the change. When will Russia get rid of "культ личности"?

Just two comments :

1/ In the USSR there were several cities named for J.Stalin (like Stalingrad) and only one of them was in Georgia. It was STALINIR now known as Tshinvali. All because only Stalin’s mother was a Georgian that means very little in Caucasus while his father was of Ossetian origin. Since then the main street in Tshinval remained as Stalin’s Avenue ( Проспект Сталина ) . It is really the widest street in Tshinval and Putin who took the command on the third day of the Georgian aggression deserves this street much more the J.Stalin .

2/ I don’t know who was the first to call it a “ 5-day war”. In fact it was a 4-day war because on the 4-th day Georgians stopped to resist and flew away in panic. By the end of the 4-day all of them were out of reach of the 58-th Army. They left all the armament and took only vehicles able to move fast.
