I cannot see any investment reason in pouring $billions in loss making car industry.
That said i don't advocate that people should remain unemployed but since the US goverment hasn't got infinite finance it will be wise to finance a stimulus programme based on science and education and also on green technologies of the future.
The economy, however, will make or break the Obama presidency.

Where is the US going to get the money for the bailout? The Chinese have wised up at last and are no longer lending via purchase of US bonds and other now-proven-to-be-toxic financial instruments.

Will the US now resort to arm twisting London or Paris or Tokyo to give them the money secretly? Or maybe siphon off the oil belonging to their lackeys in Dubai or even Iraq.

Or maybe they will just raise taxes and squeeze their embattled middle-class Americans even further. What has Washington got to lose anyway? After all the election is over.
