The stricken American auto industry’s drive for a government bail-out has moved up a gear, as some car makers claim they are close to collapse.

There is no longer anywhere to hide.Only the most competitive,and most nimble will survive in the new globalised market.
There will be further consolidations in the car industry due to saturation capacity and sales levels.US car companies ie Chrysler and GM Ford could be the first victims.
The key to the future could lie in the emerging markets and new green technologies.
Subsidising failing industries with $ billions makes no sense at all.These resources could be used to re-train workers in technologies of the future.

What about good and solvent car makers? German, Japanese and Korean. What do they get? Unfair competition only it seems. I don't think the socialism will succeed in the US where the greed rules.
