Oslobedjenje, newspaper from Sarajevo, informs about Solana's statement and quotes Milo Djukanovic saying the following:

"Interests are uncontested. I insisted several times that interest of Montenegro and Western Balkan countries to join EU is not bigger than Union's interest on these countries to integrate within the system".

Typical Milo's style, isn't it?

I pity the people of Montenegro who place any faith in Mr. Solana's empty promises.
I still have very sad memories of that awful Sunday in May 2006 when the good people of Montenegro were tricked into delivering a referendum result that really was not their wish at all. I witnessed the glee of the 'Eurorats' and the CNN 'people' that day. They didn't care about Montenegro citizens but were wetting themselves at the prospect of hurting Serbia again.

The Lisbon Treaty was rejected by the vote of the Irish people, therefore Mr Solana, respect the Irish vote, our people and our country. We have spoken and we have said NO to surrendering more of our sovereignty to faceless and unelected Eurocrats. Montenegro is going nowhere. EU enlargement cannot proceeed without it being ratified by all member states, Ireland included.

Mr Solana, what part of NO dont you understand.

and as for Ian's comment... like my fellow compatriot Mr Tom O'Donoghue, I have been to Serbia and Belgrade many times and I have never once received any negative feelings towards me or my country. The Serbian people's hospitality, irrespective of which background they come from has been second to none.

Hvala.

If this is democracy then Stallinism is new age liberalism.

Just to remind everyone that Irish have voted NO.
In the most simplest terms that means no new members.

Trigger happy Solana overthere, keeps on implying that Irish vote is either going to be be ignored or overturned, since he keeps on inviting Montenegrians, Serbs, Albanians...etc to join the Union.

Respect the Irish vote!!!! You're trampling on the principles you keep implying noone in the world apart from the West!
The same principles that have been the cause of murder of hundreds upon hundreds of thousands of people. The word you cannot stop saying - democracy!

So in other words Montenegro is rewarded by Solana himself, for recognizing Kosovo's illegal UDI. No suprises or secrets there, Solana can say all he wants, but with immediate issues including the world economic crisis, the Lisbon Treaty and with Kosovo's UDI referred to the International Court of Justice who can say when even Croatia will get into the EU, let alone the rest of us. The EU has created enough problems for itself by introducing Bulgaria and Romania as members states well before their time, the last thing it really needs is more of the same. On top of that Montnegro has made difficult its relationship with Serbia, the one true leader of the Balkans. Thats right, as much as the West (US,EU,UK,NATO,etc) would like to see Serbia's role and position of power reduced in the Balkans through its involvement(interferance), all it realy does is make Serbia more competitive, independant and strong. Eventualy it will be the West begging and pleading with Serbia too join the EU inorder to fix the mess the EU made in the Balkans.

"Only bad things can come from Belgrade..." (Ian, UK)

Only someone who has never been to Serbia could say this. As an Irishman who has been to Serbia and most other Balkan countries several times I can truthfully say that I have experienced more heart, soul, spirit and humanity in Serbia than in any of the others. And Belgrade is a brilliant city.

Well said Tom, though I think you'll find "Ian" is in fact Ilir. I do not know one British person with any real experience of the Balkans who could come out with such nonsense.

To my friends in team Albania, once Montenegro is in the EU what makes you think it won't reverse its decision to recognise Kosovo?

Although Montengro is an independent nation, 1/3 of the population consider themselves Serbian while 70% consider themselves as speaking the Serbian language.

Just remember, when the current government loses favour with the voters and the opposition comes into power, you can be sure recognition will be revoked and I am fairly certain Montenegro will be the first to do so.

Then we can start talking about waves of countries revoking recognition. It is just a matter of time my friends and time is on Serbia's side.

ZK - right you are once again. Serbia has not only time, but truth on their side as well.
In fact, most Montenegrins voted to stay with Serbia, what tilted the vote was that the albanian, muslim and croat minorities voted 100% for independence.
Unfortunately, both Montenegro and Serbia are occupied by governments which are subservient to the colonialists in Brussels and Washington right now. This will not last, and once these governments are voted out of office, Montenegro and Serbia will again unite. Njegos will then stop rolling over in his grave.
Cheers!!

Well done Montenegro. I think it is for the best that Podgorica moves away from Belgrade and gets closer to Brussels. Montenegro is its own country now (like Kosovo) and it is doing well for itself. Only bad things can come from Belgrade, the EU is the way forwards. Well Done Montenegro.

Way to go Montenegro. I must comend Milos govermant for making the right move to recognize its neighbors and move forward its country to join western world.

many burocrats in Brussels think little is good...so Montenegro could enter faster than the other ..maybe a surprise but no one in Eu is against so...Milo is in pole-position...

It is surprising!! They (Montenegro)choose to "abandon" their brothers and sisters in Serbia by recognizing the kosovo UDI and to bow to the EUROcrats.
