Obama has the momentum because his cry for change earned him the enthousiastic support of millions of Americans and billions of people around the world hangry for a break from the Bush years.
This would have meant pullin out of Iraq ,close Guatanamo torture base, more diplomacy on Iran and Afganistan, press Israel to stop settlements and agree to the creation of a Palestinian state and elevate the primacy of the UN on world issues.
Hilary's CV on international affairs is pretty negative.
Her capacity, demeanor and experience on foreign policy is close to zero.
Obama was right not to pick Hillary up for the post of VP
but he is wrong to give her the post of Secretary of state. If her appointment is confirmed, it will be a blow to those who wanted a radical change.
My hunch is that with Joe Biden as VP and his immense knowledge of world affairs it would be very difficult for Hillary to have her personal agenda.

I do believe that Hillary is one of the smartest, most capable leaders and diplomats in the US.

she will work well with obama and his team; i think it will mark great progress in our foreign policy.

the main goals right now need to be ending the war(s), and trying to build up better relations in the world, while working to promote real human rights.

hillary is intimately familiar with the situation in the balkans, in ex-yugoslavia. in fact just about a month ago, she was working on the case of the young serb man, who "allegedly" beat the hell out of a young student in new york state, where she is senator, and then was illegally spirited off to serbia. all in all, i think she knows what and who she is dealing with.

in many respects, it is up to the regime in belgrade to set the tone. if they continue the nationalist spiral, i doubt that they will be overly-embraced by our govt. if, on the other hand, they show a real willingness to change their course, and try to become peace-makers rather than the opposite, then that is quite another story.

so in that sense the ball is in their court.

for me, it is important to support the integrity of both bosnia and kosovo/a, as i have stated on numerous occasions. it is my hope that serbia, bosnia and kosovo/a will enter the EU at the same time, just avoiding some major problems.

Obama represents change from 8 years of Bushe's failed politics.
Clinton's years of presidency was a remarkable period of US history and most of Americans wish those years of success to come back.
Clinton's represent success. Thats what we all need.

"Her only foreign policy credentials is being married to Bill Clinton"

You also forgot her daring midnight landing in Bosnia, dodging sniper bullets and personally taking out a JNA anti-aircraft battery with her determined stare :)

Seriously, the Clintons are a walking corruption case and will be more of a weight around Obama's neck than anything else. There are other more qualified people for the job of Secretary of State: Bill Richardson, Chuck Hagel, Colin Powell, even John Kerry.

Appointing Hillary, our very own Yulia Timoshenko/Mira Markovic/Eva Peron, was just as much political payback for her not sabotaging Obama's campaign, as it is a publicity stunt. I have serious reservations about her qualifications, as well as her ability to take orders from someone else. But I really don't think Obama had any choice in this matter.

That's why I voted for McCain. It's not that I thought he was a perfect candidate, it's that I didn't trust Obama's promise of change. He is currently packing his future administration with former Clinton choices. Hilary is not well liked by many worldwide and I believe is a poor choice for this job. This whole election has been a huge step backwards. Of course the current administration didn't exactly set the bar very high.....

Obama was elected on a theme of change. He talked about fresh ideas and new blood in his administration.Hilary doesn't bring any of these.
Her only foreign policy credentials is being married to Bill Clinton and her selection as secretary of state will be an indication that Obama wishes to continue foreign affairs with
little or no change at all.
It's also unlikely that Hilary will be content being Obama's subordinate and the scope for in-fighting will be
massive.
