Kosovo situation "potentially explosive"

Western media see the current situation in Kosovo as unclear and potentially explosive with Priština’s rejection of the UN plan for EULEX deployment.

Did it occur to the writer that the reason Serbia has no symbols of its authority in Kosovo is that Muslim radical Albanians, with the mercenary army of NATO, forcibly ripped that region from its rightful owner? So might makes right, is that what you're saying? I want to point out that Serbia and Christianity in general no longer have any symbols of their presence due to the fact that, under NATO's watchful, Albanian thugs have completely destroyed 150 historic Christian churches in that region! Burned them to the ground and defecated on them! So much for a "Multicultural" land! If you had any clue of the history of the Balkans, you wouldn't make such an incredibly ignorant statement! Pick up a newspaper besides the National Enquirer!

It's nice to hear more sobering accounts of the situations in Kosovo aside from the halcyonic statements coming from the State Department who rarely see like outside of Thaci's offices. Yet I wonder where anyone got the idea that Kosovo was ever a functioning multiethnic society. Multiethnicity worked in Bosnia, Croatia, and has worked in Vojvodina. Kosovo was always the oddball in Yugoslavia where Albanians build two meter high walls around their compounds and Serbs dominated the security apparatus. Therefore, the current dysfunctionality of the region is not just a consequence of ill-planned statehood, but institutional backwardness stemming back to the 1940s. If tensions are to rise in Kosovo, it will be because Pristina has egged on its people with its refusal to comply. But that's why we have KFOR there, right?

"It continues to state that the unclear situation is potentially explosive and that all unsolved questions need to be kept in mind, such as: what is more important, the functional multi-cultural structure in Kosovo or the continuous EU territory from Greece to Slovenia?"

This Zurich daily is sprouting rubbish.

What FUNCTIONAL multi-culturalism is there in Kosovo when Serbs and Albanians must be kept apart to prevent a blood bath, especially at the Ibar?

And isn't there already a continuous EU territory from Greece to Slovenia via Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary? Obviously geography isn't their forte.

I guess this so called expert is trying to make a name for himself by going against the norm. Either way, his views are irrelevant for he fails to see the most basic principle:

To the Albanians who inhabit it, and to the 52 countries that recognize them as such, Kosova is independent. It might not be so for the Serbs and the Russians, but it is for everyone else in the West. Thus, the Albanians are entitled to behave as a sovereign state, and that is precisely what they are doing. EULEX has no business negotiating with Serbia. Had they not done so, Prishtina would have agreed to the plan.

And to all those who are waiting to yell at me about how "Kosovo is Serbia", okay. Except that it isn't, because if it was, Serbia would have some symbols of state sovereignty over the territory. And it has none.

“The intransigence of Kosovo's leaders with respect to Ban's compromise stems from the legitimization of their maximalist stance that proponents of independence have permitted throughout negotiations over Kosovo's status; constructive channels for dialogue, compromise and multilateralism having been fundamentally impaired by unilateralism and scant regard for international law,” he continued said, adding that the ramifications of this approach now threaten to undermine the very purpose and authority of EULEX, even before its deployment is fully complete."

In other words, you reap what you sow. Too bad for the West this never occured to them during the years of Ahtisaari's fake negotiations to which they were his willing accomplices. Too late for regrets!
