This is your typical mindless drivel by some underling at the State Department: lots of words, little substance - yes, law should be applied but if it can't we'll just cut through the gas station / what we think is therefore global reality / culture, history, legacies don't matter - just focus on the economy. The only thing these comments serve is to get the hopes of Albanian hypernationalists up "ooh! The US has spoken again! You listen! Ooh look! Tadic and Jeremic must be crying now!"

Like mice dancing to the tune of a Pied-Piper.

"NO SAA without Serbia's cooperation and NO EU without recognition, full apology and full payment for the mass murders, rapes and destruction. Actions have consequences. This is what Biden thinks, hear him: [link]
(Albanez, 18 November 2008 13:41) "

Who cares what Biden thinks?

The EU does not need the US for anything, and will not base their arguments for Serbia's acceptance to the EU because some US politician has some issues with Serbia.

I have to say that while the crimes commited by Yugoslav forces in the 90's were terrible, I don't see you talking about how the US whites enslaved the black population and murdered almost the entire Indian population (putting the survivors in reservations), or about English, Spanish, Dutch, French, Danish, Belgian, Swedish, Italian, German, Russian, Turkish, Japanese and Portuguese colonialism/slavery, which brought about millions upon millions of deaths. I wonder if those people got money, an apology and all those things you want Serbia to do.

What's happened has happened and it cannot be undone, no matter how much people say they are sorry, some politician saying sorry for the murders created by another regime is about as insincere as giving them money to keep them quiet.

Serbia will become an EU candidate next year because the major EU powers are pushing for this. Get over it.

"Kosova will continue to defy Belgrade, stop hiding behind UN when it's you with Russia. Kosova might be out unless US makes a deal for Russia to sell you out, but then Serbia will never join EU either.

(Albanez, 18 November 2008 13:41)"

Do you like football, Albanez? Too bad. Kosovo will never join FIFA too!

As for the UN itself, the US will have its work cut out for it. It will need to do more than bribe Moscow. It needs to convince Beijing too. Don't hold your breath for this to happen however. The stakes for both countries in Ossetia and Taiwan respectively are too high!

Regarding the EU, do you honestly think the EU really wants any of the western Balkans inside it, with the possible exception of Croatia? And even then only after Zagreb caves in to Slovenia's territorial sea demands!

Jones does not know what he is talking about & is just looking for a way to get around the fact that the US is starting silly. UN peacekeeping forces are in Kosovo under a UN mandate agreed to by the security council. That is the only reason that they are currently allowed there. The EULEX can't simply take over without a UN agreement. If you think that, then the UN should just leave and let Belgrade and Kosovo forces fight it out until only one is left standing. After that, no more arguments. Whomever is left wins and moves on.

Enough already Pristina, just agree and move on and let's see how it all turnes out.

Since when have dictators required a decision to authorise? We all know the US simply ignores international law when it gets in the way.

The problem now is that these dictators are in dire straights and seek assistance from those very nations strongly supporting Serbia.

The Albanians should just give up on this independence illusion. Serbia is supported by countries representing 5300 million people so how can 1.8 million Albanians oppose this unbreakable will?

It simply isn't going to happen and the sooner our Albanian friends come back to reality the better. Remember it costs money to sustain this occupation and that money is running very thin indeed.

"He also said there was no dispute between Belgrade and Priština concerning the deployment of EULEX, but only about the six-point plan [of UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon], which Belgrade had agreed with the United Nations."

Eulex has already been declared status neutral by the EU.

Kosovo can continue to defy the UN of course. But the price will be to be forever outside this recognized body of sovereign nations. If Pristina can live with it, fine. But just ask the Taiwanese. They are still trying after failing again and again since 1972!

>>>is this jones a remnant of cowboy bush unilateralism principle?

He must asked Obama's advisors too: Joe Biden, Madeline Albright, both Clintons, Richardson, Wesley Clark or Hoolbrooke. It's your policy that is wrong, not US

This wiped off Jeremic's and Tadic's smirk. They thought that they could force the Albanians to accept it because they had no choice, it's over Serbia. You will no longer allowed to cause problems in the Balkans. Now they face 8 more years of the same policy while needing EU.

EULEX would not be ready to deploy in the north by December anyway. This way they can move into the bulk of Kosovo and get systems in place before trying to tackle the north.
I would not wager on whether there will be a true partition of Kosovo but there has been a partition since UNMIK came into play.
That area will be a feuding ground for quite some time but it will narrow the area of contention.

Jones said that "there is no disagreement about EULEX deployment, but it is about the six-point plan, which the United States respects and fully supports the positions of the Government of the Republic of Kosovo."

Jones also spoke about the International Justice Court in regards to Kosovo stressing "It is not important or even worth mentioning what decision ICJ will make, because the sovereignty of Kosovo is irreversible. Kosovo is a sovereign and independent state."

i wonder why b92 censure his speak :)
