@Tom and @BKK - you need to get your facts straight.

If EU is un-democratic, it is only in the sense that small countries like Ireland and Denmark has disproportional more influence than large countries large Germany, France and UK.

Besides, the EU can not do anything when it comes to the Lisbon Treaty with the consent of YOUR government. That YOUR government (and governments in many other countries) prefer to ignore the voice of the local population and refuse to put the treaty up for a referendum is not EU's fault. But I guess it is easier to blame others than to realize that it is YOU who voted YOUR government into power.

It is not only ordinary people in Serbia that resent EU, but ordinary people around EU, and many of their politicians.

AS Nigel Farage continues to say, EU is not a democratic entity. It never was.

Does anyone in that terrible instutition acknowledges or respects the Irish vote? Or is EU going to conviniantly ignore it and dangle rotten carrot in front of the faces of Serbs.

And Albanians, I don't know what 'news' you're reading, but Germany is officially in recession while England is sliding stedily in by the middle of next year it will completely be in recession.
USA is sliding into recession as well and Iceland has gone bankrupt. The whole country has gone bankrupt.

I think both Russia and China are on a much much much better position than you'd like them to be.

Tom, I couldn't agree more. Most people I talk to here in the UK tell me the EU is going to end in tears. And then you have countries like Croatia who seem so desperate to join. Serbia should steer well clear until it is worth joining. Klaus is a man who speaks with logic.

The Czech president, Vaclav Klaus, was in Ireland during the week and upset a lot our establishment politicians by meeting anti-Lisbon activists and making anti-Lisbon statements. Well done Mr Klaus. It will be interesting to see what happens when the Czech Republic takes over the EU presidency in January.

Also, an opinion poll published today shows that the popularity of our government here in Ireland is at its lowest level since polling began more than 25 years ago. What this means is that if they try to make us vote again on the Lisbon Treaty they will suffer an even greater defeat.

Diana is right in saying that people are angry with the EU. Unless it makes a radical change to its structures and becomes more democratic I can see the EU experiment falling apart.

"Mabye Serbia should give up on the idea of becoming an EU member and instead join the Russia-Belarus union as some Serbs on this site suggested."

Mircea, that is proposed by those that think that west is dead while the 'East is rising.' Just search on what's happening on Russia and China: the ruble is being devalued after spending over $120 billion to defend it and tens of thousands of factories are closing in China. As bad as US /EU have it, Russia and China are collapsing since their economies are export based. Oil is at ~$50 from $140.

Mirce, I completely agree with you! Serbia should join the world it really belongs to, and not wasting time with the EU and the rest of the democracy.

Not even Croatia is certain that she will join the EU in 2011. The road to the EU for Serbia will be long and difficult.

I wouldn't believe a word the 'EU' said!! They want to wind up the Hague before too many questions are asked about Albanian organ trafficking, Ratak massacre, etc etc which will highlight their stupidity and incompetence in recognising Kosovo. With Mladic etc in custody they can say 'mission accomplished, but I doubt Mladic will have a chance to defend himself- heart attack, stroke??!! They will then set up other demands. The way the EU is going it will finished before long anyway, ordinary people are getting very angry with them!
