Deputy Culture Minister Dušan Janjić has hailed a court ruling on an article published by daily Glas Javnosti as an important precedent in tackling hate speech.
"The ruling is the first of this kind in Serbian legal history"
Excuse me??? And when precisely did THAT "legal history" start? It became customary that every ruling politicians and their institutions claim to be the fathers of "history in asking" or even a new mankind as per popular Tito-era songs - we'll build a new homo sapiens! But counting on collective amnesia it's too much; never mind how shameless their arrogance might be.
After all, it wasn't that long ago when people would ask each other jokingly: "Would you like to hear one (joke) for three years? Five years?"
Or it was seven years maximum sentence for sort of "hate"jokes? I don't remember. But I do remember that telling such jokes even among the friends,left many wondering for many long years "Who on the earth reported on me?"
So please, excuse me again,
do not say it's your first time - it is not!
