This kind of news and such comments are the best tool to understand what´s really going on in the heads of all the participants. The good thing of online discussion is that nobody can see your face. Otherwise so much hate would finish in duels. Burning or not burning the flag of a certain group of people called nations, is a very strong symbolic sign. Therefore it has to be condemned from all those who preach peace.

the best answer I´ve seen so far below this article.
I doubt that our dear friends have even understood your point, Aussie!

very nicely said.

our dear friends are very quick to belittle the worst possible crimes comitted by Albanians while they are even quicker to bring up accusations against the Serbs...

that is the ultimate proof of their lack of understanding...

as for the article: burning flags is stupid of course, I wouldn´t pay much attention to it, but if it is worth it for B92, well then... but they won´t increase their journalistic credibility with articles like this...

better try to stop being a platform for us-american propaganda written by ex-ambassadors etc.

Hey ZK UK,

Another one of your totally one-sided posts. Haven't you learned anything (yet) from living in the UK?

Anyway, here's one for you. I just learnt from a very, very reliable source, that Malaysia is officially going to announce it today or tomorrow that they have recognized your southern province as an independent country.

Now, if someone in a week or two (or in future) in Chachak (or elsewhere in Serbia) burns Malaysian flag will you again condone such actions?

God bless ...

A flag was set on fire. No one died - that is the good news.
Xenophobia in the region is not something that will cease overnight – it takes time.
However, the fact that no one was killed shows that progress is being made.

You are right, Peggy: that's exactly the most fundamantal Serbian problem. Why do you ignore it, why don't you reflect, what Serbs are doing critically by yourself. Why are others needed to critisize you ?? Start with this, please, instead of telling others, what they should do or not do, Peggy.

Serbs burning Albanian flags.

Albanians burning Serbian churches.

I can't help but feel one hate crime is slightly more severe than the other.

But hey, I'd rather Albanians burn Serb flags instead.

2004 would have been far less violent.
(Mike, 31 October 2008 01:21)

That’s great preference Mike. I cannot agree with you more. However you have to change something on your comment.
Serbs burning Kosovar-Albanians houses.
Serbs burning Kosovar-Albanians alive and/or burring alive. Albanians, who were dead at that time, were lucky.
Albanians burning Serbian churches.

But hey, I’d rather Serbs burn Albanians’ flag and/or mosques and/or churches.

Peggy,

It was not my intention to argue with anyone here, but you have triggered me!
You are at first step avoiding the article to comment, so I have to do so.
As for human organs trafficking are concerned as far it is not proved, these are only allegation made by certain people in order to harm Albanian credibility that have in the west. If there is anything true in this direction, Del Ponte could initiate and finish that at the time when she was in charge for that!!!! Does this not tell you enough?

As for the burning churches and killing serbs is concerned, I do not agree and do not approve any kind of violence, but again, this was far too low comparing with Serbian crimes conducted to the Albanians (and not only to the Albanians but to the entire Balkan people – I don’t think that I have to remind you!!!).

All this above, is the today’s result in the Balkans: No country wanted to stay in any kind of connection with Serbia which ended with Kosovo independence at last.

It is not all to Milosevic only! My dear serbian friends, it so obvious that your society and mentality must change on root if you want to proceed further one with the civilisation.
(predictor, 31 October 2008 08:01)

For someone from a society which harvests human organs to lecture Serbs on how to behave in a civilized manner is quite rich.

Clean up you own society first and stop the ghoulish behaviour before you presume to lecture other on how to behave. Stop burning churches and killing Serbian children before you lecture.
Stop with criminal activity all over the world and then speak.

In other words, look at yourselves in the mirror and see what is looking back at you.

I have to disagree with those who burn flags, simply because they are the people that paint a negative picture of Serbia to the rest of the world.
Yet I find it funny that people who justify burning churches act with a right to judge actions of those who burnt the flags. There is no fairness or intelligence in your statements.

And to all Serbians:

Why do people need to compare two completely different scenarios and try to justify the actions of someone burning an Albanian flag in Serbia. Someone commented that its not as bad burning a flag compared to Kosovars burning churches no said it was we can go on and say burning churches is not as bad as killing and raping thousands of children, woman and men. Just comment on the actual article. As for the article I doubt whom ever did this will be charged.

My dear Albanian friends, in case you didn't notice, those people are being charge with inciting ethnic, racial and religious hate and intolerance.

Now back in Kosovo, the Albanians make a picnic of burning 500 year old churches and those perpetrators get a pat on the back.

Now my Albanian friends, the hard part for you is to find the difference. Burning a flag and being punished or burning churches and being rewarded. Try hard and you may see the difference one day.

1. burning flags is really stupid, it impresses nothing.

2, It is also a freedom of speech issue and it should be protected-however if these flags were not the property of the people who burned them, they should be charged with theft and vandalism.

Burning a Shqip flag does less maiming than, say, "harvesting" organs. Wouldn't all our dear neighbors and brothers from Albania agree?

Incidently, has B92 driven away most Serb viewers? The quantity of comments seem down terribly. This would seem to be logical consequence of B92 veering so far to the left to appease Albanians. This story could have been put side by side with the latest in Albania's intransigence to let Serbian government officals look for REAL mass graves. Then the flag burning story has more than enough context. Without this obvious background the situation can be summarized as nothing more than vandalism; the same way Albanians are inclined to pass off multiple and repeated desecrations of Serbian burial grounds in Kosovo.

Oh dear, so much anger and negative feeling.

Personally I've never cared much for the trappings of statehood so neither burning flags or waving them means much to me.

Still, I have to condemn the burning of these pieces of material that seem to mean so much to those who should have other, more important priorities.
