I have to say that this is not new news, but included in one of Kostunica's biographies.

Let me add something since I know and visited that department of the government, at the time headed by Vladimir 'Beba' Popovic.

Firstly his office was not located in that department (he was the true target). Rather a state secretary had her office there, she remained employed under the following Kostunica government and is there (relocated) today.

Secondly the idea that those employees in that department were in some way involved in bugging their own government is ridiculous - had they broken in as Nalic and Tomic wanted at that time of the evening they would have found about 3 or 4 employees - a traslator, a website editor and a proofreader.

No, the fall out if a civilian government worker had been beaten up or worse by a bunch of special policemen / army bursting in to their own government would have been immense. A complete joke.

With hindsight perhaps it is a pity they didn't break in. It would have been clear to everybody then what Kostunica's allies represented and may have forced a clean up of the intelligence agencies - and who knows, perhaps prevented the murder of Zoran Djindjic.

Let me just assure anybody who doubts what I'm sayng that I give my word on all the facts I've stated above.

I do know the operational reason why they wanted to do this, but such a claim might not be published by B92.

Still, I might just call up a couple of hacks I know to fill in a couple of the blanks.
