"Balkans, except Kosovo, low priority"

An American analyst believes that the Balkans, with the exception of Kosovo, will hardly feature among the new U.S. administration's foreign policy priorities.

Johnny, I think you are the one who is hopeful of the US not changing their policy. Your whole existance depends on it.

Like I said, the US is going to be bankrupt if they don't change their foreign policy soon. They cannot possibly wage wars around the globe and stay solvent.
They are borrowing money from China to continue with this madness. Now who is in a position to continue on the same path, Russia or the US?

It's a matter of economics. Simple. They will have to abandon some of their dreams. They are preparing more troops to Afghanistan and are also preparing for Iran. How much more can they borrow from China in order to sustain all this? There is a limit to everything. Don't think for a minute that the US is not in heavy debt. Their own people will revolt if they continue to throw money on wars.

This is not me hoping. This is reality.

Even if they do continue with the madness, Kosovo will never become a country. You need the UN for that and as long as Russia and China hold veto there you have no hope.
Even FIFA won't touch you. Olympic committee will not go near you either. What is it you actually have?

You can't send an olympic team out. You can't even play a game of football. Ger real here. With all America's help you still have nothing.

What exactly has America brought to you? They occupy the land and set up camp Bondsteel while you have no respect around the world.

50 or so countries are a drop in the ocean compared to how many don't recognize you and won't. Stop dreaming and see the things clearly. Americans are masters of deceipt. They gave you a Hollywood version of independence.

John Quincy Adams, the number is 52 today, thanks to Malaysia. Number is still growing.

Peggy I do not recall the US and Russia ever being friends. Not at war with each other yes, friends no. I doubt they will ever be friends. Don't you see that they are taking on the enormous task of new green energy technology rather than be friends with Russia and Chaves and Ahmadinajad.
Also what makes you think the Russian government policies will not change before the US government policies? Like you say they change all the time right? Russian policies have changes so much in the near post.

The Serbs are hopeful on getting Kosova back and riding it of Albanians based on 2 things.

1. They believe and are rooting for the US to fall. Some Serbs go even as far to say that it has fallen or that it will fall next year.

2. The US will change its policies and retract its recognition.

They hoped so much in Bush and were voting in masses for him. They saw him as the one who wouldn't be like the democrats and wouldn't recognize Kosova. Now the Serbs are saying that Obama, a democrat, will not be like the democrats. Don't set your expectations too high or you are going to be disappointed another time.

Peggy

Thomas Jefferson, perhaps you should spend a bit of time reading what I wrote instead of what you think I wrote.

I said that governments change and therefore policies change all the time. What makes you think that this foreign policy will stay in place forever?

Serbs and Americans were allies at one time and look at the situation now. Albanians were the enemy at that time but current cirtumstances are such that now they have become necessary to the US.
Tomorrow Serbs could become necessary and you will be forgotten just as quickly.

These are not dreams but realities in politics. Until the next administration takes office we won't know for certain, but we do know for certain that things won't stay exactly the same.

Keeping Russia as a friend is necessary to America.
America can't sustain their level of interference around the world. It's baknrupting them. They will have to let go of certain policies. Which ones is yet to be determined.

Stay tuned.

Peggy,

I understand your wishful thinking. But if you spend a little time, less than 30 mins reading Jonathan Clark's previous articles on Kosovo, his entire emphasis is why Kosovo should not...always calling Kosovars of Albanian origin "rebels, separatist, ignoring ethnic cleansing," rather focusing on Serbia's crimes in the 90's. Going back to the point, he's "opinion" is irrelevant. Besides, independence of Kosovo has been a project of Democratic Party.

I recall, Serb-Americans supporting Bush in 2000 and 2004, pouring millions of dollars, sadly!

Another long time democrat from state of Illinois Durbin, sponsored a bill supporting the arming of KLA in 1999.

Hey thomas jefferson, I find it so funny how instead of writing that kosovo is recognized by 50 out of 180 countries, you write about 71 percent of the economy. Now go do some hw and find out how bad those countries (US, EU) economies are based up China, Brasil, Russia, India, and the rest of the world.

So, if your gonna start with the propoganda, think it through! =)

i can assure you that we americans are NOT sorry for intervening to stop the genocide in kosovo/a. not, not, not! except for elements of the s-diaspora and far-extremists on the left and right (which is about the same thing in my book.) americans have not decided in favor of milosevic, thank yu very much, nor Putin! can you imagine?! bush may have looked into his cold blue eyes and fallen in love, but the rest of us just saw a "post"-soviet monster...

yes, we will have to deal with russia, and negotiations are better than war, any day of the week. but we are not following his lead, thank you very much.

when (not if) barack is elected, we will continue to pursue a progressive policy in the balkans, supporting freedom and human rights for all people. he has already promised to support independent kosovo/a, and will do the same with bosnia. these dreams of greater serbia will remain pipe dreams, thank you very much.

the only hope for the balkans is the road to the EU -- no, it ain't heaven, but it is the closest thing on earth, and that road will not be ez. as far as I'm concerned, serbia should eventually enter it, but ONLY alongside with bosnia and Kosovo/a, both of which they have attempted to destroy, and almost succeeded.

Serbia should behave and recognize Kosovo as a sovereign country. Jeremic has told our friends in Washington DC about his plans to do so in the near future.
(Thomas Jefferson, 29 October 2008 23:18)

Well, I guess Serbia has been told to behave by Thomas Jefferson no less.

Governments change and laws and policies change accordingly. The current foreign policy of the US has brough it nothing but almost bankrupcy. They will have to rethink that policy if they wish to keep some respect and power.

One way of getting out of the mess is to blame it all on Clinton and Bush. It doesn't matter that Clinton and Obama are from the same party. Only ten years ago did we even dream about an African American president?

And I agree with Jefferson on one point: There is no chance in hell that an Obama administration will de-recognize Kosovo unless they are forced to, and I can't see any potential candidate for that coercion.

Peggy, I advise you to read Jonathan Clark's reviews before you come to conclusion. It's an opinion, and he's been a member of Serbian Caucus, a good friend of Jeremic for many years. I have to say, he's been against NATO, an ultra-marxist that despises everything American in the first place.

Long live Free Kosovo!

So, peggy, before you get any ideas, and b92, better get some ideas what's going on.

Kosovo has been recognized by all its neighbors, and 71% of world's economy! IMF and World Bank on its way. That's all it takes.

Peggy I hope so too, but I fear that American Foreign policy would rather burn things than learn things.

Wes Clark and Richard Holbroke are likely names for an Obbama Secretary of state, and I am quite certian that the next administration will be as deranged as the last

I'm an American and Obama won't want anything to do with keeping our forces anywhere. The only possible downside is that in repudiating NATO action in Kosovo, he would be repudiating the actions of Clinton, who is from the same political party. But, once he's elected....he won't need Clinton anymore.

Bottom line, most US citizens are now realizing that our involvement overseas costs us lots of cash...and that we need that cash here at home to sustain our society.

I think our Albanian friends will be in for a SHOCK if Obama wins and the ICJ rules in favor of Serbia. Obama will have his face saving out in that case to withdraw recognition of Kosovo using the respect for international law and improved relations with Russia and Serbia as his official reasons.
