It is very interesting to see what the diametrally opposite side does say.

Interesting, isn't it?

While I rarely miss opportunity not to say somewhat sarcastic about thaci & co., Albin Kurti has my respect. Obviously, my views are very different than his, but this guy is ethically clean, has no blood on his hands, is brave and is pretty sharp.

He is young; today he does say "no negotiations" - earlier or later perhaps he will be the one who will lead the negotiations.

Remarkable!
What an odd meeting agenda: EULEX and other EU-Serbian relations.
Are they connected? Are those conditioned by each other, by any chance?
Not according to the Serbian government , but they can’t read the writing on the wall any way.
My 3-years-old one is more astute politician than the current members of Serbian governing establishment.
They should hire him as a consultant. It may prove to be a good gig for both parties.
At least it can’t get any worse. Or can it?

I do not foresee in the future the East rising considering that oil producing countries depend on oil consumption for their cost of operations. Russia, a non-opec member is really feeling the financial heat after it closed down its' stock market and Putin is throwing less rhetorics --- 63$ a barrel is fantastic. Did I mention the USD impressive climb from 64 to 80?

The reason why EU wants Serbia’s agreement on EULEX mission is its deployment in Serb areas as well, so they are not out of the processes in Kosova. Additionally, it so obvious as regards to Serbia’s legal sovereignty over Kosova that Serbia has lost that as of June 1999, practically (de facto), while it has lost it formally and legally (de jure) on February 17, 2008.
Other thing that you should be aware of is that EULEX mission has no executive power at all as well as ICO/EUSR what tells that Kosova’s government and political structures holds all necessary powers to rule an independent country. However, as Kosova pledged to stick to the international standards and path towards EU and NATO, then both missions are highly welcomed as well as their possible advices are to be taken into consideration.
As a third point here, I would mention UNMIK’s gradual restructuring (ceasing) its presence in Kosova, losing at first its step, its administrative power that held for nine years. I think this tells you a lot.

Kate,
Hopefully B92 will print this, they usually don't. But you consistently quote that Resolution 1244 says that Serbia has to approve the deployment of EULEX. Please show where in the entire framework it says that Serbia has to be in agreement with anything.
A simple cut and paste will suffice.
The entire context of 1244 is that Kosovo is Serbia by name only and that Serbia has "no" controls.

What they should be discussing is the return of Serbian police and border guards to the province. If the Albanians cannot look after themselves and need EU supervision then that can be accommodated but for the sake of peace and stability in the region, it is time to respect international law and Serbia's territorial integrity.

The attempted theft and occupation of Serbian soil cannot be sustained forever and there will come a time where this effort will be reversed. If the EU needs to send some police, prison guards and judges to pacify the Albanians then to a certain extent, that should be fine so long as Serbian police and border guards also return. However, this sell-out government should not appease the occupiers too much otherwise I fear the reversal will become evermore uglier.

At the moment, I am simply shocked at the speed of the financial meltdown with the balance of power rapidly shifting Eastwards. Serbia only needs to stand firm and we'll get our way sooner rather than later.

Europe and America have recognized Kosovo independence and enforced a so called peace plan without
listening to Serbia. And now they crawl on their knees and are more or less begging the serbs to play along, even promising to make changes to EULEX. I guess they finally realized that there can be no lasting peace unless there is an agreement by both sides. And, yes, Serbia is still a factor in Kosovo which is strange since it's an "independent country". Deny it all you want but that's a fact.

Interesting that negotiations between Brussels and Belgrade are taking place on the deployment of [US]EULEX.

Under Resolution 1244 any such deployment would need to be agreed by the UN Security Council and Serbia, unless Serbia agrees to their presence in Kosovo in which case it wouldn't need to go before the UNSC.

This need to negotiate with Belgrade speaks volumes about Serbia's legal sovereignty over the province, and the fact that negotiations between all parties are the only way forward. If the US and EU start acting with less political intent and more realism then everyone could move forward.
